So I’ve been following the war in Ukraine on social media while I was sick last year, and lately animal rescuers in particular. The other day a soldier posted about dogs who needed to be evacuated from a village under shelling. The house they lived in was in ruins and one had a broken paw. https://images.plurk.com/6YVxtgGbgPgBkRiPQAy8fp.jpg

With a proximate indication of their location at first I identified a couple of volunteer groups I knew in the area, and the first two I spoke to agreed to go, with one only being able to go next weekend when they do their evacuation/humanitarian aid.

The other one is a group from the UK that specialises in dangerous animal extractions and at like 4 this morning they were on their way to rescue them and take them to their shelter for medical care before finding them new families. https://images.plurk.com/5Wfn77IJOwlCVak7LcWLNd.jpg

I’ve seen appeals for help go for weeks and one look at their faces I couldn’t let them wait that long. The soldier herself said she didn’t expect it would happen so quickly and was really happy. As was I! She was especially worried that she was going to change position really soon and couldn’t take them as there was no vet clinic where she would be going.

wow. I'm really shocked that you could arrange this from so far away! does the volunteer who picked them up need money for gas or anything?

tormentedcorpse : they have a Linktree and they can use donations to support their work 🙌

I’m following on Instagram and that’s where soldiers, volunteers, and people who want to support them network. Through stories and reposts you can help connect people. Amazing.
