Weird RPG opinion: It stresses me out when a game has more characters than party slots

Quinneapolis
like what if I'm using the wrong ones

Quinneapolis
should I be focusing some up more than others or going for a balanced meta-team

Quinneapolis
are only four of us going to get to participate in the ending

oh i'm scary
in Octopath absolutely the latter

Quinneapolis
it's so many advanced ways to second guess myself into oblivion

oh i'm scary
switch people out liberally and keep them all leveled

Frozen Time
this is why I can never finish a Pokemon

Ligaratus
this is why job systems are superior to big parties imo

EsperBot
It was a big relief when I realized that characters in Chrono Trigger still got xp and leveled up even if they weren’t in the active party

Gabiluzbad
In games with parties I always found managing the party's EXP levels to be an actually interesting challenge

Quinneapolis
the bigger anxiety is the final boss thing

Quinneapolis
if anyone is in the party and don't get to fight the final boss then their character arc didn't count!!!

Rama
I'm replaying Baldur's Gate and yeah

oh i'm scary
(this is not a real counterpoint but) counterpoint:

oh i'm scary
this can be extremely funny if a party member Sucks

oh i'm scary
ME3 keeps track of who you used least often and has them complain about it in the Citadel DLC so you can dunk on Kaidan one last time

Echo
Also what if you're leaving out one of the party members too much, so they never have the chance to hang out with their friends and they get sad. :<

ShootingXC
it's fine just play the game so much that you end up with your main character so overleveled they destroy the final boss

Quinneapolis
I hate doing thaaaaat

ShootingXC
it definitely sucks the epic out of it

ShootingXC
I do like games with good mid-battle switch mechanics like ffx
