I think it would be fun if more fantasy stories with different kinds of magic had practitioners of different schools react to each other's work the way visual artists in different specializations do
"so i don't really know the theory behind this but if i pinch the fabric of reality like this and pinch and pull it just like this-" "shut the FUCK UP how did you FIGURE THAT OUT"
but yeah like. my reaction to visual arts outside of my particular skillset/specialization is so often "FUCK OFF THAT'S WITCHCRAFT" that I think it would be very fun to see actual witches, wizards, sorcerors, etc. responding that way to each other's magic
I need both this dynamic, and different schools of thought within the same school of magic to react the way artists do to different styles. Sufficiently far enough schools of magic are awed and confounded, people in the same school get into literal slap fights over shit like "How could you use VAMPIRE BAT GUANO instead of fruit bat as a material component in
your spells, you absolute HEATHEN?? Everyone knows the spell is more potent that way!" "It doesn't MATTER how potent it is if you can't control the results, you BARBARIAN. Do you want to blow YOURSELF up too??"
I vaguely understand the theory of conjuration but HOW are you making it DO THAT
"shut the FUCK UP how did you FIGURE THAT OUT"
