(given the time/place/circumstances divorce would be kind of a dick move if they weren't looking for other relations which had led to the funny (to me) contemplation of 1. do it anyone or 2. every way but legally, precursor to arthur & john getting divorce at least thirty eight times)
(seriously, considering everything we know about the circumstances + family, there's no way it wouldn't have been awful to various degrees for at least a time. which i'm sure is great for arthur's feelings)
With a law adopted in 1969, California became the first U.S. state to permit no-fault divorce.[7] California's law was framed on a roughly contemporaneous effort of the non-governmental organization National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, which began drafting a model of no-fault divorce statute for states to consider in 1967.
i feel like bella and arthur would have been so good for each other, if it wasn't for daniel looming over them, arthur clearly cares about her a lot and was trying to make sure she didn't suffer bc of his inability to be In Love with her
arthur's definitely allowed to be selfish about it (tho if i had just given birth in 1920 something and person who'd agreed to marry me probably with some understanding that there wasn't love there was like 'it's too much now' so have to deal with at fault divorce and religious family, murder might happen. hopefully he'd wait a week or so)
like, later you can agree that staying in this situation could have problems/there are better ways. if he spoke in the moment, hope there aren't surgical items around
a number of universes to the left, the handing over custody days are so awkwardWith a law adopted in 1969, California became the first U.S. state to permit no-fault divorce.[7] California's law was framed on a roughly contemporaneous effort of the non-governmental organization National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, which began drafting a model of no-fault divorce statute for states to consider in 1967.
