OH MY GOD fuckign SCAMMERS

papermint tiger
I woke up to an email from 'Mcafee' telling me my account had been 'chosen' for an autorenewal

papermint tiger
to the tune of $399.99

papermint tiger
naturally i called them right away (i am not the best at critical thinking when i first wake up okay)

papermint tiger
and some Indian guy answered which was my first hint... adn then he said the wrong number of years when i gave him the 'confirmation number'

papermint tiger
also now that i think about it he didn't pause before he said it, usually they have to look up your info

papermint tiger
or say my name/email either

papermint tiger
anyway i finally noticed the email was from Mcafee-24 and not Mcafee, com

papermint tiger
fucking scammers

papermint tiger
i likely wouldn't have been so easily fooled but my computer came with a Mcafee account i've been ignoring almost since i bought it and they've been trying to get me to 'reup' past the free trial it came with

𝔯𝔞𝔦𝔫𝔟𝔬𝔴 𝔭𝔦𝔯𝔞𝔠𝑦~
yeaahhhh

𝔯𝔞𝔦𝔫𝔟𝔬𝔴 𝔭𝔦𝔯𝔞𝔠𝑦~
I get a bunch of those scams :/

𝔯𝔞𝔦𝔫𝔟𝔬𝔴 𝔭𝔦𝔯𝔞𝔠𝑦~
I'm glad you didn't give them any personal info tho it's easy to do

papermint tiger
yeaaah, luckily i wised up

papermint tiger
the guy wanted me to get on my computer and open my browser and i'm very leery about doing that crap

tronja307020
See, that's when I woulda started fuckin' with 'em. But I can understand not having the patience.

papermint tiger
I do not have the patience nor the skills to lie about this stuff lmao

gᥲtᥱkᥱᥱρᥱr
oh I don't lie I just put them on hold

gᥲtᥱkᥱᥱρᥱr
last time this sort of thing happened to me they called me while walking my dog. I was almost home. I told him that. then I sat down on a bench and waited.

gᥲtᥱkᥱᥱρᥱr
you don't need to be very smart or quick to waste their time, just act dumber than them.

papermint tiger
I just hung up on him tbh

gᥲtᥱkᥱᥱρᥱr
that's a good choice

tronja307020
Yep. There's no sense in dragging it out if you don't enjoy wasting their time. lol

gᥲtᥱkᥱᥱρᥱr
I like to do it because I've noticed I don't hear from them again after. I used to get off the phone as quickly as possible and they'd call me several times a week

tronja307020
I tried for a while. They didn't stop much. It would abate for a day or so before they would be back to calling me. 20 times a day.

tronja307020
And I work overnights.

gᥲtᥱkᥱᥱρᥱr
yikes I've never had it that bad. at least not ones I've answered. I get those "scammer likely" calls but I just don't answer them since I never use my phone as a phone anyway

tronja307020
ah yeah, see, I was getting those a lot, and got fed up, so I started answering them to see if they'd get the hint. Nope. It got worse. So I just blocked all "scammer likely" calls.

gᥲtᥱkᥱᥱρᥱr
yeah I just don't answer them. I was dealing with this before phones did that and now I just don't answer my phone unless it says mom. everyone else texts me lmao

papermint tiger
The one I've been dealing with the longest is a racket that was trying to ask for donations for cops, veterans, firefighters, a few other things

papermint tiger
They finally seem to have stopped but that was just because I stopped answering the ones with those area codes

papermint tiger
I also gave them money a few times so they clearly saw me as an easy mark

papermint tiger
I mean I hope they got taken down entirely, but I don't know

gᥲtᥱkᥱᥱρᥱr
yeah you giving them money puts you on their list

papermint tiger
Yeaaaah. I was fooled by those for a while until I realized that a. They all had the exact same script, just replace the name of whatever they were asking money for

papermint tiger
And b. One of them told me that I had given money to them 'last year' and then argued with me when I was like no, it was just a month or two ago

gᥲtᥱkᥱᥱρᥱr
was it January.

gᥲtᥱkᥱᥱρᥱr
LMAO

papermint tiger
Nah it was like. September
