ah yeah that might do it... still when i was getting ants in the high rise (how?? good question) spraying them and their paths with vinegar water really helped me despite not being able to spray outside
when ants were getting into the shop we pretty much solved the problem by following them back to where they were getting in, and there were little cracks/gaps in some grout they were going through, so we filled that in and I guess that was the only way they were getting in because they stopped
if you're worried about pets, baking soda along areas where they might be coming in (like window sills) helps. It disrupts their scent trails and basically blinds them
a sprinkling of cinnamon powder will only be effective for so long but I got a lot of mileage out of repeated applications when my bedroom kept having ant problems
