okay I'm throwing this out to the internet at large - I'm trying to find an old PC game probably from the 90s maybe up to the mid aughts where your character is on an outpost on an alien world FOUND THE DAMN THING! Quantum Gate

and maybe he's a convict, working off his crime? I don't remember for sure. BUT, the big thing is that the planet itself and the aliens are SUPER HOSTILE

but then inevitably when he has to go outside, and he's seeing all these hostile aliens attacking him, something happens and his helmet faceplate gets smashed, and it's not a creepy bug alien at all, it's a human lady trying to help save his life (but he dies anyway, I distinctly remember the scene/her face fading out while the alerts are still coming from

his helmet)

and in the station, like in your room, you can change the lighting/sound settings and it had little soothing animations for meditation or whatever?

(primarily what comes up when I try google search is Kill All Humans or the Alien Movie Franchise games and it was none of those)

you did tasks around the station? But you also talked to people, iirc the cook was super suspicious of the government and at one point you have the option to report him to the authorities?

It was definitely 'realistic' animation though (for the time)

yeah there's an outer limits episode that's similar

(that one's people being kept in a compound because the outside is unlivable due to radiation etc, but then they find out that the leader is a robot and they dismantle him and the outside is recovered)

but this is definitely a dude sent from Earth to another planet

doesn't look like, it was just a standalone, not a series, and the graphics on that are way simpler

(at least in the images I'm find on the googlemachine)

this was 'realistic' (you know, we thought the graphics were amazing at the time)

I want to say first person? Like when the helmet cracks it's definitely from the character's POV, same with doing the adjustments in your room

but I feel like when it was conversations/cutscenes it was actual scenes like you were just watching a show that your character was in?

(I may be wrong on that, many details are fuzzy)

and being 'an interactive movie' makes sense for the scenes being so weird compared to the gameplay
