So, this afternoon, I get a call asking to speak to the manager. I apologize, because it's his day off, but is there anything I could help with?

No, because it has to do with the other store.

Well, after a little back and forth, turns out that the problem is...woof.

Before Christmas, she went into the other store to get an XBox Ultimate Game Pass. She wanted six months, but we only do the three month ones, so she tried to buy two.

Except that the till couldn't connect with the central server that deals with gift cards, so they weren't activated. The guy on the till, not quite understanding this, put them through a different way.

Which I'm pretty sure means he EMCed them and sold them for the price that had come up for them originally.

So. Fast forward to the a few days ago, when her grandson actually tries to use one of the cards and it doesn't work. Because it wasn't put through properly. (It happens. Guy on the till was, hopefully, fairly new.)

So she called the store yesterday to try to figure out what needed to be done.

And the person she talked to...I wasn't real clear on what was said. Other than the guy she spoke to said that, "Well, you could have stolen those cards."

And when I heard that, all I could think was, "Jesus fuck, who needs a complete retraining on how to deal with customers?"

Because even if you THINK that's what happened, that's NOT what you say to the customer.
