yeah, I've got 2 frozen pipes so far (hot water to the kitchen, and the upstairs toilet)

may the odds be ever in our favor, re: them not bursting

Unfortunately I'm housesitting elsewhere, so I couldn't have run any kind of space heater

These particular pipes always freeze in the crawlspace, too, so it's unlikely the issue is anywhere that a space heater would help

I've had all the sink cabinet doors open since yesterday morning, and all the sinks running, but forgot to specify running lukewarm water, so the kitchen hot water froze.

hopefully nothing bursts :x

I went over to a dripping faucet to wash a pan, so I turned the water to hot and nothing came out. "Ah. That... sure is great."

good news: plumbers are here (and thank god for my clients who gave me these guys' number, because every other place i called was 1) closed until monday, and 2) had a massive backlog)

bad news: there is indeed a burst pipe that's going to cause issues when the freeze thaws, and it's not in an easily accessible place

they're going to have to take down some walling to reach it

I haven't tried my upstairs toilet yet, but my kitchen sink seems to have thawed without incident

OKAY they were able to both thaw the freeze and fix the pipe; they ripped out some insulation i'll need to refix but did not need to actually demolish anything after all

absolute lifesavers is2g, if my clients hadn't given me their number i'd probably have ended up on a two-week-long waiting list with my regular plumber with water spewing everywhere from a thawed break

also the guy asked me to text him my name/address/email for invoicing purposes, and when i threw in the appointment time and a brief description of the job for good measure, my phone asked me if i wanted to schedule "burst pipe in unheated crawlspace leading to upstairs bathroom" as an event

my BIL was here yesterday trying to help me at least locate where the freeze was, and they said that 1) there's no place down there for water to leak and pool without being immediately visible, so there's no need for me to be concerned about a pipe leaking/bursting and doing damage without me knowing about it (which had been a major concern), and 2) it would

take truly insane amounts of water to do actual structural damage to the couse
