I just learned that you can transform high quality items into normal quality items for free

had no idea that feature existed

oh! yeah, they added that when they retooled gathering and made gathering HQ items impossible

so that if you had HQ gathering mats leftover from before the change, you could convert them and save the inventory slot

it's been around a lot longer than that

it's also for if you need to give a stack of 10 elm lumber for a quest

and you have 5 elm lumber and 5 HQ elm lumber

it needs to be one stack to turn in

so you can de-HQ the latter stack and pool them together
