About 6 months before that happened, I was at their house doing a Nano write in with said friend... and found I had forgotten my charging cable.

Ex was a WFH IT guy who made loads and had more computer gear than Gates, so he said "hang on I have a power cord that'll work with that".

The laptop was the first I'd ever chosen and bought for myself. It was my baby.

The cable he brought me fried the motherboard and killed it.

In repentance, he took me to Best Buy immediately and replaced it ... and when I asked if the new one could still handle what I needed or if I would need to buy upgrades, he said "No, this is a decent one and it'll do everything you need."

It does not multitask well AT ALL, hasn't for years. I finally decided this year that if I'm gonna seriously do this small business thing, I need to fix that. So I did my research, bought a ram to match what I already have and an antistatic kit.

In the course of this I found out I had not the 8 I had assumed, but four gb of ram

I got the stuff today. Just spent the last hour and a half taking things apart (like a baws) ...

... only to find out this model soldered the ram directly into the motherboard and that the system specs were lying when they said I had one slot available.

yeah. Anyway, it's back together and working fine and I formatted a 16g SD card as supplemental ram, we'll see how it goes
