tho also on top of that he already didn't like Beatrice for mildly criticizing Zwei once upon a forever ago because Yuki is not especially hinged about people he really likes
and then extra already didn't like Beatrice for insulting Jamil after he deliberately emotionally gutted her because Yuki is not especially hinged about people he really likes (we will be bookmarking the note of 'Yuki is not especially hinged about people he really likes' for further revisiting later)
BUT LIKE. FOR LITERALLY EVERY PREVIOUS LOCKED ROOM POPULARITY-ISH TYPE GAME, YUKI WAS OPERATING ON THE LEVEL OF 'I LITERALLY ACTIVELY DISLIKE HALF OF FINCH AND HENRY IS THEIR ONLY REDEEMING QUALITY, BUT I WILL STILL PRIORITIZE THEM OVER ALMOST EVERY OTHER TEAM, BECAUSE FINCH IS IMPORTANT TO MY TEAMMATES'
which is tbh unfair to Finch to feel betrayed that they did not feel the same obligation when they never asked that of him and he never actually talked to them about what their arrangement was supposed to be, (because he didn't want to talk to them anywa)
one time Geto basically told Yuki 'you know we don't actually care if you punch Jesper and in fact it would be kind of funny right' and Yuki was just like it's not about him it's about the fact I would die for Jamil and Kaz
after Jesper and Kaz left I don't think Salamander actually talked to Finch to be clear on where they stood really. but Jamil said he still wanted to treat them the same way and that's official enough for Yuki
yuki :handshake: kalim whatever jamil wants is just how it goes unless he wants to hurt himself that's not okay but you should know jamil's word is law
and as far as team relations go Yuki personally was willing to have the whole hostage game be water under the bridge. neither team chose to have the other's hostage instead of someone else and they just did what they had to do. he was genuinely kind of annoyed at Finch for trying to be considerate to him
but also he did not want to be vulnerable with them enough to like tell them about his trauma buttons or anything. ironically. [camera pans to Salamander hostage room]
tho also it was compounded by the fact he was freshly coming off the yandere bender so he had a particularly low approval rating for himself at that time, both because part of the yandere mindset he had was [self-loathing cranked up to 11] and also because he could be like 'ah yes I see how that was just a warped version of me and I hate it'
because if finch hadn't dithered and just fucking tormented yuki the way they could have then he wouldn't have been able to get yanked back before they could do some real damage
and then salamander has to act all wounded and betrayed over how oh nooooooo finch is mad that we humiliated their boss so badly that we got to win the torture game by making a mockery of the team that's supposed to be good at torture
hilariously Yuki would slightly agree with Yuzu in that like. Salamander was primarily trying to be conciliatory to Finch after the hostage game to stay in their good graces but then they really shouldn't have also been transparently displeased with them for also playing the torture game and having feelings about it
but Yuki didn't really proc how transparent their displeasure was so to him they were trying to be conciliatory and Finch kept spitting in their face for it.
Yuki also was not actually present for 1. Salamander torturing Beato 2. Jamil and Vin apologizing round 1 or Jamil apologizing round 2 3. the spite wheel game that just happened so he is running on secondhand information for practically everything
but mostly Yuki's pov is very skewed by the fact he was already resentful of Beatrice and Finch and just sat on it for nearly his entire snek run. and he was still trying to sit on it after hostage game but he did a bad fucking job of it because Jamil was sad once which means someone somewhere had better fucking regret their words and actions
and often this is genuinely uplifting for him but also often it instead just turns into another form of shaming himself and beating himself down when he isn't actually able to function in the way he wants to
kalim's pov is skewed by "I Came Back To A Game Where Finch Just Suddenly Decided To Dunk Us Because Beatrice Hates Jamil And I Know This Because Jamil Told Me So"
"but now Finch outright targeted them so he's finally allowed to just be a botch and tell Zwei she's best girl for horrifically delimbing someone" this is hilarious bc while zwei had gotten over [the yandere stuff] it's like... praise for dismembering someone from boyfriend Ascended her
I keep losing track of what I'm saying. Yuki is actually extremely pessimistic and judgmental and resentful and envious and has a high capacity for cynicism and pettiness and unnecessary cruelty
all of which are things he sees about himself all the time. HE knows his first thought to a lot of things tends to be bad. but he usually chokes it all down and what he mostly ends up externalizing is either consideration or passivity
both of which can be like, bland consideration like basic pleasantries or bland passivity like turning down the stuco president post all the way up the spectrum to exceptional consideration like how he reaches out to Zwei or exceptional passivity like sitting in the corner of a room and going mute for probably months
but there's a degree of disconnect where the negativity makes up a disproportionately large amount of his self-perception and a disproportionately small amount of how he is perceived by others and then he feels fake and misunderstood and lonely
he especially dislikes and rejects the bad thoughts parts of himself because they are really largely a product of QUOTE CANON, BEING LOCKED IN A DARK ROOM AND PSYCHOLOGICALLY TORTURED FOR [X AMOUNT OF TIME],
and he doesn't want to be sincerely pessimistic or focus on the negative parts of the world or his life or think of things as worthless or meaningless, on the whole
but it also is good for him to let people see and know and still love and accept the side of him that like. wants to beat the shit out of people sometimes
it was just something that would keep leaking out of him because he couldn't completely keep the cap on it and then he would just be even more ashamed of it and ashamed to be reassured about it when he didn't want it to be there at all
but the team he spent nearly his entire snek tenure trying to rein himself in around so he wouldn't alienate them and jeopardize the team-team relationship as a whole tpking Salamander and singling out THE PERSON WHO CARED ABOUT THEM MOST IN PARTICULAR just unlocked a level of rage where he can finally be like holy shit. I don't care anymore
Rin dropped Rin so this part won't really come into play as much, but since Yuki doesn't know Rin is gone yet he is still thinking about things under the assumption Rin is still here
the points for which basically boil down to - if Beato is willing to trash the finchmander connection then from a longterm standpoint that means either she doesn't understand Rin's feelings or she doesn't care about them as much as her own - Rin is not going to try to mitigate the conflict and will probably just take Beato's side even if it hurts her
to which Yuki did make the conscious decision that he's not going to keep trying to salvage everything for Rin's sake, because if Salamander keep being the only ones who even want to salvage anything then they're stuck trying to figure out how to do that on Finch's terms
also unearthing one of his core grudge memories of 'that one time Salamander got hit by so many attacks that it was numerically impossible they weren't targeted by at least one of their own absolute-no-hit teams'
ie at least one among Finch/Chipmunk/Snail. which he initially was like 'I will just assume it was Snail because I only have one tie there and no one has explicitly told me our entire teams are supposed to get along, unlike with the other two'
(it actually was both Finch AND Chipmunk because Sparrow didn't attack them either but Yuki will probably never learn this) (so instead he's just going to decide it was Finch.)
if that was the Heavy Rain game Uriel does sometimes mention that Sparrow didn't put water on any teams when discussing past game tactics but if Yuki doesn't mention it to her he may still never know. but iirc both Jamil and Shirou know, as well as the ORVs, from her, so /shrug emoji
no glory
: HEAVY RAIN Y. Yuki actively was not seeking out information on how other teams played tho on the whole because he did not want to become a psycho at that time,
the part of diamonds game where Salamander played extremely tame but was about to mcfucking lose it if the game had one more round was foreshadowing for the future
whatever jamil wants is just how it goes unless he wants to hurt himself that's not okay but you should know jamil's word is law
"but now Finch outright targeted them so he's finally allowed to just be a botch and tell Zwei she's best girl for horrifically delimbing someone"
