Spent the entire day at the bay area (SF lang?) w/good friends. I saw the MOA Eye & it reminded me of a friend & how underappreciated these rides are.
Six years ago, this friend of mine went thru a bad breakup. As in wasak talaga. So to nurse her broken heart & shattered spirit that time, she decided to travel to Singapore & just be alone.
Wala raw siyang balak sakyan ang Singapore Flyer that trip but since nadaanan raw niya by chance one day, she told herself to try it kahit na takot siya sa heights. Kasi nga getting out of her comfort zone ang theme ng moving-on sojourn ni anteh. E 'di go siya.
She noticed na raw na wala gaanong tourist sa Flyer that day.
So when it was her turn to ride na, siya lang mag-isa ang waiting na passenger. So akala niya masosolo niya iyong cart. Then at the last minute, a pale white guy was rushing thru the gates para habulin iyong papaalis na cart.
Naimbyerna pa si anteh kasi nga solo cart na, naging bato mo, she thought. The guy joined her inside the cart & off they go.
The first few minutes, they were just both quiet inside the cart & both were just enjoying the slow ascent. She could still hear the guy pa nga raw catching his breath dahil sa pagtakbo kanina.
Until finally, the guy made small talk. He greeted her a good day & asked where she's from. She said Philippines & the guy naman was from the Czech Rep.
So kuwento-kuwento until natapos ang ride. After that brief encounter she left & went back to the hotel na. At this point deadma na, for her it was just a random encounter w/a fellow tourist.
Kinabukasan sa Lau Pa Sat naman siya pumunta. It was around 3pm daw. She was trying to get food kasi 'di pa siya nag-lunch.
She got her food & looked for a table. She found one & immediately started to eat na. A few mins after, a guy stood in front of her & asked her if he can share the table w/her. It was the Czech guy. 😊
Siyempre si inday, said yes naman & they continued their chit-chat from yesterday. When their meal ended, the guy asked her if she has whatsapp.
They exchanged numbers & went separate ways. At that moment, my friend didn't expect anything to come out of it.
So a few months passed after that fateful meeting. She was doing better. Nakamove-on na rin kahit paano when one day she got a message — from the Czech guy.
He's in PH daw for work and asked her if she wants to meet for coffee. ☕
She agreed to meet w/him again kasi mabait at maayos naman daw kausap si guy. They met in Greenbelt that weekend, sa dating puwesto ng Cafe Breton.
They talked for hours na this time. The guy shared that he was in SG to nurse back to health a broken heart when they met. Dito na rin umamin si inday na wasak din puso niya that time.
They talked & laughed a lot that day. Alas, all good things must come to an end. So they bid each other goodbye but this time, they promised each other to keep in touch regularly.
And they did. They talked almost daily & their friendship grew day by day until one day, they realize na in-love na sila sa isa't-isa.
Nung nagkaaminan na, 2 weeks after the guy was back in PH to my friend's surprise. She asked her what was he doing here again & the guy said, I'm here to ask your parent's permission na maging girlfriend siya.
My friend, whose heart was broken into a million pieces, felt it go back to its old happy state at that moment. Tinanong pa nga niya si Rold...
Hindi na raw siya nakaimik that moment. She just nodded. That evening she & her guy was at their house with the guy humbly asking her father if she can be his girlfriend.
Her father gave his blessing but he asked the guy to promise to never ever break her heart and he did make that promise.
Weekday noon e. I think Wed. Almost sunset na. Sumakay silang dalawa sa cart. As the ferris wheel started to rise, the guy fell on his knees & he took a tiny red box out of his pocket.
At that moment, umiiyak na raw si friend. Nanginginig. Kasi alam niya na hindi ang mga nangyayari. She knew she was scared but it was a good kind of scared.
The guy asked her hand in marriage the Filipino way pa, 'wag kayo. The parents of the guy flew here to formally ask her hand in marriage.
They had a simple but lovely wedding in Barasoain Church then after a few months my friend joined her husband sa Czech then after another few months, they moved to the US and lived happily ever after.
So ano point ng kuwento? The point is, that love comes in the most unexpected & mysterious ways. It comes the least you expect it but for it grow, you need to give it a chance. Let pains from the past heal so a broken heart can love again.

Months passed then it became a year and then two of being together. It was hard for both kasi LDR but they tried really hard to make it work.
Until one day, the guy was back in PH on a planned visit. This time he asked my friend na sakay sila sa MOA Eye.

"Will you marry me?"
Ayun ngawa-ngawa na raw siya sa loob ng cart while nodding fervently like those cat figurines sa mga tindahan sa Ongpin. 😂
A few months after that, they got married.

So next time ride a ferris wheel alone or share a table with a stranger.
Kasi papaano papasok ang isang bagong tao sa buhay mo kung palagi ka namang sarado?
En I tenyk yow.
