You're Quinner
I just created an incredible stupid setting via a quick mental exercise
You're Quinner
yes I'm coming to raid
You're Quinner
but I was like
You're Quinner
the ttwo things I always resist putting into a setting I make, whenever possible
You're Quinner
are time travel and no-catch resurrection
Where Is Harkan
oh no
You're Quinner
so I thought
You're Quinner
what if I leaned as hard as possible into having both instead
You're Quinner
so here's my concept:
You're Quinner
a universe where, if anyone dies
You're Quinner
they can freely reload at any past point in their life and try again
You're Quinner
with full memories of the previous timeline
You're Quinner
no limitations on reload count or distance
You're Quinner
let's consider an example
You're Quinner
Timline 1
Where Is Harkan
Do they have to die?
You're Quinner
yes
You're Quinner
Alice murders Bob
You're Quinner
Bob, now dead, gets to reload
You're Quinner
so he goes back to before being murdered, branching off Timeline 2
You're Quinner
Bob remembers T1 and T2 but Alice only remembers T2 because she didn't die
bluecanary
i actually have the exact same 2 rules in my own settings :V
You're Quinner
so Bob uses his recollection to get the jump on Alice, and kkills her
You're Quinner
Alice now gets to reload
You're Quinner
this creates Timeline 3
You're Quinner
Alice remembers Timeline 2 and Timeline 3
You're Quinner
Bob remembers Timeline 1 and Timeline 3 but not Timeline 2
You're Quinner
then nearby Carol dies of old age and goes back to her youth
You're Quinner
creating Timeline 4
You're Quinner
Alice remembers Timelines 2 and 4, Bob remembers Timelines 1 and 4, Carol remembers Timelines 3 and 4
You're Quinner
it gets worse from there
Where Is Harkan
And it's billions of people all making timelines at all times?
You're Quinner
yes
You're Quinner
forever
Where Is Harkan
My god
Niamh Vibes
good lord
Where Is Harkan
nothing would ever get done
You're Quinner
at any point, there are literally infinite past timelines
You're Quinner
because you need to do infinite loops to get past anyone's natural death
Where Is Harkan
Can someone choose not to reload?
You're Quinner
no
Where Is Harkan
Then this universe would never get past the death of the first life form with this ability
You're Quinner
only if you see meta-time as proceeding linearly
Where Is Harkan
w
You're Quinner
if someone died yesterday, then yesterday happened infinite times
You're Quinner
and now it's the present
Where Is Harkan
Okay I fully admit I do not follow that even a little
Where Is Harkan
Go do your raid

ғᴏxʏᴍᴏʀᴏɴ
i get it and i love it but also i hate it
bluecanary
this rules
thetaClysm
if i understand correctly, the implication is that a timeline doesn't "end" just because someone reloads
thetaClysm
so there still exists a timeline where that person died, continuing on after their death
You're Quinner
unclear
