It is nothing like peanut butter. The texture is very slimy around the beans, almost mucus-like (it has that really specific kind of "slimy but gelatinous"?) while the beans have a standard cooked bean texture. The flavor is fairly mild but the smell is strong.
Hmm - it's the 'strong smell' that worries me; I can smell peanut butter from halfway across the room, and I'm not sure if that's because I'm allergic to it, or just because it's 'a' strong smell.
I've only had fried okra (and not very recently), but good to know!
