Luke Skywanker
Honestly the first half was mostly Phantom of the OPera. but he is not a group.
Luke Skywanker
Radiohead. Dave Matthews Band. Jeff Buckley. Ben Folds Five. Maybe Tori Amos but only Little Earthquakes?
PlurkDevi
I was obsessed with Little Earthquakes, but she lost me after that.
PlurkDevi
I also wasn't in high school (blush)
Luke Skywanker
Yeah that was kinda it for me for her? It felt significant at the time (even though I came to it later).

I guess high school would be Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush, Dead Milkmen, Sugarcubes
Lone Justice, with the Beatles bubbling under. The Beatles were more a middle-school thing for me.
PlurkDevi
Actually, lets replace one of those with Pink Floyd.
PlurkDevi
This is hard because it's four years. I ran the Sugarcubes into the ground hard, but not for four whole years!
Luke Skywanker
yeah same. I mean not with the sugar cubes! I mean there were phases
Luke Skywanker
But i mean... I can't remember if my intense Simon and Garfunkel phase overlapped with high school, but maybe?
Luke Skywanker
Honestly I made this list looking through my tidal 90s playlist, so I might be missing something huge if I was listening to older stuff then, but I just don't remember!
PlurkDevi
High school was dominated by Classic Rock with a strong undertow of punk (mostly local bands)
Luke Skywanker
That's fair. I think living in the mid 90s was actually a great time for rock
Luke Skywanker
and 95.5 is nationality recognized as one of the better stations at the timr
PlurkDevi
You realize that the nation is littered with stations that broadcast on 95.5
Luke Skywanker
Well I didn't think you were going to actually know or care?
Luke Skywanker
I wasn't actually trying to convey precise info, but!
Luke Skywanker
it was Rhode island
Luke Skywanker
PlurkDevi
Aha!
PlurkDevi
writes this down
Luke Skywanker
they've got playlists for their top songs for all those years in the 90s
Luke Skywanker
they're really good, I ported them from Spotify
PlurkDevi
I'll have to check it. WHFS Annapolis was a fantastic alternative station that was undone by the advent of grunge. I have their playlists from the early 90s.
PlurkDevi
There was a great local song called "Klingon Bastards" that was simply rehearsal recordings of a Shatner soundalike trying various phrasings of "You Klingon Bastards, you killed my son" against a sonic backdrop of a banjo hoedown.
PlurkDevi
It was wonderful, but the recording is MIA (and if you find a recording on the web that claims to be a rerecording of the original, it is not).
Luke Skywanker
that's amazing
Luke Skywanker
this had a lot of grunge but I feel like some variety too
PlurkDevi
MC 900 Ft. Shatner lol https://images.plurk.com/1dNr5ovz7WyvunjzAmKlI1.jpg
Luke Skywanker
HAHAHA
OhCecilia
Alanis Morisette, Belly, Soul Coughing, The Doors, and 10,000 Maniacs
Luke Skywanker
nice!
OhCecilia
PlurkDevi : Luke Skywanker : did either of you listen to Scarlet's Walk? I remember at the time, it was my absolute favorite of hers, yes, even more than Little Earthquakes. That said, I haven't gone back to listen to them as whole albums in AGES
Luke Skywanker
Nope!
PlurkDevi
Neither did I, but you can add 10,000 Maniacs to my list
OhCecilia
I'm now inspired to go back and listen to it. I'll let you know if I still stand by my recommendation for it, but I did love it at the time.
