tonight i sat outside for halloween, with two pillowcases. one had candy. one had baby red potatoes.

i'd say to the kids as they came up, "i've got a trick, and i've got a treat. either way you get something, so which do you want?"

for little kids i'd hold out one of each and ask them to pick the one they want

i swear, i almost ran out of potatoes

so many kids holding one up like a trophy, running back to their parents, "I GOT A POTATO!!"

They'll be the star of the trick-or-treating stories in school tomorrow.

only one old lady got mad, while i had mom doing it a bit, and she threw the potato down in the street

smh

i still gave the kids the choice of whether they wanted to keep the potato too, but only one kid wanted to swap

one little boy's mom was urging him to get the trick, and when i handed him a potato his face just fell

so i told him that one's for your mama, you get the treat
