[phones] so I bought two phones I'm trying to decide between: the galaxy s22 and the pixel 6. And while I was initially dissatisfied with the galaxy because it "didn't look like my old phone," I kinda got used to it. And it's smaller and while the pixel is supposed to be the better camera, I'm not unhappy with these shots.
I was testing them both while Uber driving. Which I realize is heavy use and normally you just keep it plugged in. but I was at like, 17% by 11am on the Samsung the other day.
I mean, I've got a Pixel 6 Pro and "the battery suddenly went a bit to shit" has been my only complaint; I'd previously only had Samsungs and gradually got fed up with some Samsung-specific stuff (read: having to sign up for a Samsung account to access basic options on the phone and Samsung spamming me with ads)
anything related to this button had to have the Samsung account, even if you just wanted to turn the damn thing off because you kept hitting the button on accident
there were a few unofficial apps that got some actual functionality out of the button but Samsung kept using security updates to block those apps from working, they were hellbent on trying to force Bixby into being a thing
and also getting spam notifications that was basically Samsung trying to get me to buy a newer model phone (of course I couldn't turn these off) was also really annoying
but yeah, it is entirely possible Samsung smoothed out some of my pain points with the S8 with their more recent releases lol the Bixby implementation there was just so bad
I guess the upshot is, neither is actually going to get me through a day of my type of use, on a battery charge. so either I need to just adapt to that, or neither is the right phone.
yeah, with the two sets you posted there's really not a ton of difference and I feel like you'd have to get into some hardcore tech review blog stuff to get to hair-splitting details
so the thing is, I wanted the pixel for the streamlined UI, which is what I am used to. the unlock is crap, it's currently not working with my earbuds, and overall it's bulkier and heavier than the other one. so while the battery on the Samsung is a huge downside, I almost feel like the battery is a downside in both cases
yeah, I really thought the battery was going to be the deal breaker. but I'm already at 48% on the pixel, and that's with plugging it in for about 20 minutes when I got home
I am also finding the gesture control really difficult. half the time I can't get it to show me my open apps. and I can't tell what I'm doing differently between the two. I know I can switch that in the settings, but it's still really weird
But. The battery. Is terrible.
