there is something about the fact that Jon's feelings about Dorian have absolutely nothing to do with how pretty he is and this is like, undeniable, is like... A LOT
then when you take his choices later into account, he literally only works if you realize he's a very very caring person who is very very broken and lost.
Oh, I don't think that's on Warren in particular. At least not in intent. If Warren's trying to help fix him, there's no way to avoid the hurt; that's kind of the point.
It's just probably the most common advice people tell Sweeney, so he gets in the rut of 'I've already dealt with this so often, I'm going to save us both the time'
Oh, Sweeney is absolutely there on that. One of the things he hates most about the Barge is that there are no Rules with a capital R. He'd keep to them, if he's able. Those things are important to him
Jacobi blew someone's arm off, he walked him down HIMSELF while still an inmate. and picked the most hardass warden he knew to come lock them in so they wouldn't be out for a week
Sweeney's only experience with Jacobi was Jacobi spontaneously assaulting him in the hallway and beating the shit out of him. I don't think there was any punishment except it being filed with the report sheet
if I recall, he wasn't happy about that himself. But Jacobi was Tim's responsibility. And he couldn't act as Jacobi's warden, given their relationship.
Gutterson asking Warren to take care of him was their first interaction, so Warren already knew. And it's the name on every Barge listing, so there's no reason he wouldn't call him that
Basically, any time he gets called that, he has the momentary remind of 'hey, you remember your Greatest Sin; the one where you abandoned your pregnant wife and went off and got cursed because you threw a cunt bishop's bible in the lake and possibly speared one of his priest --
-- and so he cursed you with madness so your kingdom fell to a bunch of Christians and your family was left in rags but you were still too crazy to not drive them off when they came to see you? Yeah, the English can't pronounce your name and decided Sweeney was close enough'
That's because he's awesome and actually gives a shit about the other persons responses when offering advice instead of digging his heels in and wut? Sweeney not informing people of his baggage in any way that's helpful? No way
I do think it's funny that they always kind of had an orbital dynamic that didn't really affect each other (from where Sweeney was sitting), then it's '<slams down some intense shit> Peace out, bitches! I'm off to get married'
Sweeney has a lot of empathy for Ulla. Fellow imaginary creature of course, but she can't even get around the boat as her true self without a device provided for her. How much of a dick move is that, Admiral?
Blanky just said to Ulla that at least there's the pool, and she was like "Having the pool is like having one room on the ship where you can walk, but having to crawl through the rest of it."
Reminds me tangentially of how Sweeney loves to swim, but hates baths (in a tub). There's the 'this is supposed to be something I like, but it's just sitting on something hard and half of me is outside the water'. Why is this supposed to be a nice thing I should enjoy?
Sweeney does shower. Even more than he did before Flotilla. It was put on his 'baby steps to graduation' by Gutterson. Doing that and laundry. So he tries. Sometimes. At least there are clean linens on the bed that he doesn't sleep on?
I've lost most of my love for swimming, alas - especially when afterwards it then becomes a rush to the shower to get stuff out of my hair/family complains about water usage.
I mean, that's pretty neat, ngl. He never worries about carrying her infection anywhere if they're not kissing or fucking, but it makes sense that she would push for decon of everything all of the time
floofdoodle
: Warren was focused on Ulla but Sweeney was always on the radar. he was annoyed as shit when Gutterson flew the coop. especially since he put energy into helping him to try to help Sweeney indirectly.
I appreciate Warren giving a shit. There are several characters that do, obviously, but Warren's always had a bunch of his own shit to deal with Over There, so Sweeney wouldn't think he was on that radar
including the death of the first man he loved that Pagan is a tiny bit jealous ofsays the dude that's never been in the same space with him
