I don't know why I'm surprised that there's Omegaverse manga out there. I guess I just thought that was a small part of Western fandom.

(Which just goes to show you how far removed I am from Omegaverse fandom and A/B/O dynamics in general.)

Oh yeah dude it's apparently a whole Thing and there are cultural differences in how they handle it.

I don't read it but a friend was telling me about it once.

i think this is also the source of people talking about how you can tell american ABO specifically by how bad the healthcare options are

See, I didn't even know healthcare options came into play, but I guess that, given the love of drama that kind of setting kind of demands, it should be obvious.

ITS MY TIME TO SHINE

But yes! Medical care is a plot device in abo manga. Primarily heat suppressants and often the overdosing of because ~drama~
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/8013203-medium79956711.gif)
MerryMariLwyd
Also het abo pops up which is fascinating 2 me. Some universes in abo manga include female alphas, like usually as a background character but like they’re there
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/8013203-medium79956711.gif)
MerryMariLwyd
There’s also a subgenre of abo manga that’s dom/sub universes where dom/ sub dynamics manifest as “secondary genders” similar to how they do in abo
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/8013203-medium79956711.gif)
MerryMariLwyd
Which i think is mostly like abo without the more
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/8013203-medium79956711.gif)
MerryMariLwyd
*without the mpreg. Can’t believe I never taught my phone that word

every time I attempt to read an a/b/o fic, I start wondering about world building instead

"how does this alter our ideas and understanding of sex and gender? how is sexism different in this world? no shut up about the fucking, I have questions!"
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/8013203-medium79956711.gif)
MerryMariLwyd
That gets explored
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/8013203-medium79956711.gif)
MerryMariLwyd
Sexism is translated into the ABO dynamics where alpha is the penultiment most elite, betas are regular people and omegas are generally like bottom rung citizens
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/8013203-medium79956711.gif)
MerryMariLwyd
Like it’s not that deep but it is there and it’s usually for Drama because obviously
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/8013203-medium79956711.gif)
MerryMariLwyd
Omegas masquerading as a beta and being hyper competent is a frequent theme. Like obvi there’s more overlap with like original fiction abo than fic specifically
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/8013203-medium79956711.gif)
MerryMariLwyd
Also there’s like these two or three pages that show up before the manga proper story starts that sets up the basic world building of what I think is like the general agreed upon rules of this universe, I’ve seen it in a couple different manga from different artists and idk if its a thing the scanlations are doing or if it’s standard
