Actual unpopular opinion on DC time: I like Brian Bolland's colors on The Killing Joke more than John Higgins'.

Only thing I don't like is that Bolland erased the yellow oval.

This is the one panel that I like Higgins' work better on, and even then I think Bolland's makes more sense. Given that the Joker's supposed to be wearing a black tie tuxedo, the purple shirt, tie, and gloves don't really work. Especially when the cuffs are still somehow magically white.

Everyone always tells me that the garish colors make sense because they ~represent the insanity of the story~ and I'm just like. The wild colors start before the story gets that way, tho.

Batman's in all magentas and greens in the batcave

(Also, if Moore had wanted the colors to be all psychedelic, he would've mentioned it in his script. The recoloring is more in line with what Bolland wanted, by his own admission, and likely more like what Moore had in mind.)

(This man once spent an entire page discussing a single panel in his scripting.)

The wild colors are too harsh honestly

Honestly, if the Higgins colors were just a bit more subtle, I'd probably be a big fan. Because, I'll admit, Bolland does play it a bit too conservatively in spots.

Like, the Joker should be a splash of color that pops out of the page.
