[Work] I hate that this interview went so well, and that I like the guy so much.
BethampHATamine
The job would be interesting, bridge tender for the Montlake Bridge in Seattle.
BethampHATamine
Apparently I'd be free to be a desk jockey if I want, mostly, or to fill the time with maintenance. There's a maint team whose actual job that is, but tender can do some if they want.
BethampHATamine
And there is mobility, both shift and location.
BethampHATamine
But the hours they're hiring for rn suck. SUCK.
BethampHATamine
Position one: 10pm-10am Sat and Sun bridge tending, 6am-2:30pm Wed and Thurs graffiti patrol all over the city.
Position two: 6am-2:30pm M-F graffiti patrol except when they nab you to fill in a 12-hr tender shift.
BethampHATamine
Positives:
Makes about 180% what I make now + union/better benefits.
12 paid holidays a year.
Free parking + working hours outside high traffic hours.
In Seattle, instead of an hour north.
BethampHATamine
Negatives:
Graffiti patrol.
My choice is between having absolutely no weekends or having no predictability. Either way, no more making plans with friends beyond a quick dinner after work.
Road crew bros.
BethampHATamine
These negatives sound petty but maaaaan they're negatives.
BethampHATamine
More negatives:
Night shift. ROLLING night shift. Which I do now but by choice.
BethampHATamine
Positive:
That was the friendliest, most 'you should work here, it's great' interview I've ever had.

Oh damn
BethampHATamine
They want to onboard whoever they hire on the 16th, so I guess I'll have to be certain soon. I went into this interview not intending to take the job.
Jay
oof, those at very legit negatives
Jay
would there be any chance of lateral or upward movement involving better hours any time soon?
BethampHATamine
Yes, but not soon.
BethampHATamine
Better shifts happen by seniority, so only as people above you quit/retire.
BethampHATamine
And it's a small team
Jay
:/
