skarme
hi friends anyone got some recs for mystery or otherwise story heavy games that do not involve walking sim controls or otherwise spinny cameras
skarme
or if they do but have good camera customisation options for motion sickness or otherwise, i'd love to hear about them!
skarme
ive come to the realisation this year that i like mystery stories and things where you're gradually puzzling out the plot and/or lore, but i get motion sickness really badly recently
skarme
to give an idea of the kind of game premises i find appealing: i tried to play umurangi generation, diaries of a spaceport janitor and the stanley parable recently and liked the small amounts i saw of them but got severely motion sick after no more than 10 mins each time
skarme
i really feel like playing something that scratches a similar itch to night in the woods, wandersong or disco elysium
skarme
rpgs and things that don't have much action going on would also be fine
skarme
basically it's steamsmas lol

Would Heaven’s Vault be of interest?
✧ Navigator ✧
Heaven's Vault - Official Trailer - Nintendo Switch
✧ Navigator ✧
It’s on PC as well
Dead Mentors
I was about to recommend Analogue: A Hate Story, but I see it's already on your wishlist
skarme
ohh that one has actually been on my wishlist for a long while but id forgotten about it, yes it does also look like the kind of game i like! i'll give it another look ty
skarme
lmao yeah that's one i've been meaning to play for several years too
skarme
blessedly vns have no camera to give me motion sickness at all
✧ Navigator ✧
I recommend watching a few videos of play in case it doesn’t appeal, but I really liked it. I need to go back and play again tbh
dragon time
Do you like a point and click game? Wadjet Eye has a lot of good point and click adventure mysteries
dragon time
Oh, Overboard! It starts with you in the position of someone who has just done a murder and has to get away with it but like everyone on the boat is hiding some sort of secret and the game is about finding them out to use as leverage (or shoving them off the side of the boat before they realize that you've been shoving people off the side of the boat)
dragon time
It's more of a time management sim than a click or skill point sim
dragon time
Long Live The Queen doesn't have as much open world exploration as you'd like but it might scratch the Disco Elysium urge to increase skill points and play dress up and find out secrets and realize what a homosexual is, and if you are very unlucky, to die by sitting in a chair
dragon time
It's sort of like a VN/raising simulator and is very good and has lots of replay value
emet-sleep
I recently finished Zero Time Dilemma but I have no idea if I'm so late on the bandwagon for this game that you already know/have played it lmao
skarme
i have played ztd lmao, i used to rp sigma
skarme
i am not big on horror sadly, i don't like jumpscares and spooky images
skarme
i am noting all of these down tho ty some i had heard of before as well like overboard but it's so easy to lose track of why things are on my wishlist
Dead Mentors
Holly, you played Murder By Numbers, right? Was the plot good or was it just a framing device for Picross?
skarme
ive played that one too
skarme
i liked the plot tbh, there was a bit more going on than a framing device and it was Very Gay but not ultra deep
Dead Mentors
alright, cool, I spotted that one on my wishlist while digging for stuff to rec but I didn't want to rec something I wasn't personally familiar with
skarme
i do like that sort of thing as well! i bought Why Am I Dead At Sea the other day (didn't realise steamsmas was so close..) and that's another murder mystery that is engaging while you're in it and hit some neat notes for a game from 2015 but wasn't aiming to be groundbreaking
dragon time
i havent finished murder by numbers and i should
dragon time
oh, elsinore! it's got a top down camera situation like Disco Ely
dragon time
you go around and try to manage a time loop
dragon time
I liked Black Closet, too, it's a card game about solving mysteries in a girls school
skarme
oo i do like card games sometimes
dragon time
most of the mysteries are randomized to amp up the replay value
dragon time
I like Dead In Vinland, it's a survival/crafting game with lots of details and interactions between the people you get and the environment
☼ zinnia
elsinoire is so good and would also highly recommend
☼ zinnia
if you're into mystery otome, ghosts of miami should be on sale right now
