Quinn Angstrom
A kind of setting I like is the low-fantasy setting that occasionally suddenly becomes a high-fantasy setting
連続犬
same
Quinn Angstrom
the whole golden age arc of Berserk just being gritty politics and man murder, then the eclipse happens and hell opens up and demons are just the most real it's ever been
Villain
Cradle....
Villain
was never REALLY low fantasy, but man does the power level ramp up
Quinn Angstrom
Newtypes in UC being ambigious subtle empaths until Kamille comes along and the power of his dead friends makes his Gundam shit out psychic birds that drive people insane
Quinn Angstrom
Cradle is just high fantasy
Quinn Angstrom
honestly
Quinn Angstrom
outside of like the first third of book 1
Villain
Elder Empire actually is much more This
Quinn Angstrom
like you get established rules for how the world works, and they're restrictive
Quinn Angstrom
but then the rules suddenly get broken
Quinn Angstrom
and Judau gets so mad that he projects a psychic newtype kaiju
Villain
Also adjacent to this: F/SN
Quinn Angstrom
or Shirou jumps from reinforcing one stick once per day to summoning 200 legendary swords out of thin air to fight god
Quinn Angstrom
YES
Villain
At no point is F/SN low fantasy but
Villain
Fate: "Here are the rules of the holy grail war"
Villain
UBW: "Okay but what if we bent all those rules into pretzels"
Villain
HF: "Okay but what IS a holy grail anyway?"

a subfolder to this i really like is the nebulously-post-apocalyptic fantasy setting that is low fantasy but pre-apocalypse was obviously high fantasy
skerple
I personally appreciate a high fantasy that's secretly sci-fi
skerple
or vice versa
Villain
also good
