I did not say it on the way out the door today, but I felt Cartman spiritually today.
Shard
So. We have a big visit tomorrow. And before, with our old boss, I would have stayed over to make sure that things were ready and sorted properly.
Shard
Because the old boss would have made sure I got paid for the hours or would have changed my hours later in the week so that I got the time back.
Shard
Our current cluster manager, however, won't approve time past when you're scheduled off, generally. She's usually willing to let a few minutes go, but nothing like I would have needed today.
Shard
And I was single manning for most of the morning and the end of the day.
Jaetopus
sounds like manager made her bed and gets to lie in it now
Shard
And...honestly, fuck it. If they're going to be like this about single manning and all? "As you sow, so shall you reap."
Shard
Yep.
Shard
Also, things are FUCKED for later in the week, too.
Shard
I'm off on Wednesday at 10:30. The books person isn't in on Wednesday at all, so the big book chart change is going to go to the new store leader. (Different from the cluster manager. Store leader hates this shit as much as we do.)
Shard
I'm off on Thursday. Book person isn't in until the afternoon...the store leader is going to have WORDS for the cluster manager, I'm sure.
Jaetopus
yeah, from everything you've said about this whole... thing... I'd be doing exactly the same as you. they don't care, so you shouldn't care
Shard
As the books lady said on her way out today, "Not our circus, not our monkeys." And I was like, "They do not pay well enough for me to deal with those monkeys."
Shard
New store leader keeps being surprised that neither I or the books lady went for the job she has.
Shard
Both of us have been with the company for 10+ years. Fuck. That.
Jaetopus
yeah, I hope new store leader is starting to realize what you knew but she didn't XD
Shard
She's from outside the company, so...
Shard
But yeah. I'm like, "They do not pay you well enough for this shit."
Shard
Sooo. Some updates.
Shard
After all the worrying I did yesterday about getting everything together right, they only stayed for about 15 minutes. Most of that I spent getting the delivery in.
Shard
Cluster manager stayed after, though, doing a few things in the office with the store leader, then asked to speak to me in private. Because book lady had sent her a message last week when both of us had hit a frustration level with everything that meant we needed to get some shit off our chest.
Shard
I don't remember entirely what was said. But, since I was in today when she was there, she pulled me aside to ask about it...and low-grade bitch me out for letting somebody else speak for me.
Jaetopus
wooooow, here I was hoping this would have a happy ending
Jaetopus
obviously you should all individually send her your grievances
Shard
And then she went on to explain some things that had been happening. That may or may not ACTUALLY have been happening because she was blaming everything on the old store leader. Who, of course, isn't here any more to deny.
Shard
(Though I do still talk to her. I'm not sure Cluster Manager realizes that we're actually friends.)
Shard
She said that the old store leader was pulling money from one of the shops she was handling in another town to pay for our cover here. And that most of it had been going to me because I was the one doing most of the hours.
Shard
Like...I honestly felt like she was trying to make me feel guilty because I was getting most of the pay because of all the overtime hours.
Jaetopus
yeah, that sounds like "So I should be looking for a job elsewhere so you don't have to pay my hours?"
Shard
She was ALSO all like, "You've really hurt your store leader because she's meant to be your line contact and you went over her to complain to me." Whereas store leader was telling me later that she really appreciates me and that she wouldn't be doing her job as well as she is if it wasn't for me and book lady's support.
Jaetopus
mmm don't like that mealy double-faced stuff
Shard
Yeeeep, me neither.
Shard
I didn't tell her that one of the things frustrating me was her micromanagey bullshit and doing that thing where she punishes the entire class for problems in just a couple of her stores.
Jaetopus
oh god that's the worst. your workers are not children! this is not a grade school!
Shard
Like...she literally sends a list of things that need to be done each day. Even though we never have a problem getting our stuff done or managing our own time? We still have to print it off and send a picture at the end of the day. (We tend not to, but that's our low-grade rebellion.)
Shard
We have to confirm on different WhatsApp groups that we've clocked in and out. And that we've tested our SoloProtects that day.
Jaetopus
print off the to-do list and send her a picture
Jaetopus
woooooooooooooooooow
Jaetopus
no, seriously, I know you've already figured it out, but this is me super confirming that it is exactly as much bullshit as you think it is
Shard
And whenever we have bouncebacks that need to be scanned? EVERYBODY gets messages about how we're all terrible and we need to be better at it...when, unless we have a newbie, we're normally only missing one or two.
Shard
OH! I don't think I told you this last week, but she came in on Tuesday when I had a new girl. Who was doing all right, so I ducked in the office to get some paperwork done that I hadn't had a chance to touch for...a couple of weeks.
Shard
So cluster manager arrives, does her thing, goes to walk the shop floor...then comes back in and asks me if I know about the fact that one of the sticker books I still have on the shop floor needs to go back.
Shard
Me: Yeah, I know. But I don't have a spare skip today to send them back. (Because stickers have to be sorted separately because of how the distributor handles returns.)
Shard
Her: Well, you should pull them off and leave a note for whoever is here tomorrow to make sure they get sent back.
Shard
Me: [Mentally screaming because I've been doing this job for nearly 15 years, I think I have a fucking clue how to handle this sort of thing] Well, I'm the one in tomorrow, so it won't be a problem.
Shard
...I then left them on the shop floor until the next day when I had a tote I could send things back in. Because, you know, I KNOW HOW TO DO MY FUCKING JOB.
Shard
I am so goddamned tired.
Shard
I don't always enjoy my job, but it wasn't terrible.
Shard
Now I start most mornings coming into work by flipping the bird at the phone or the email.
Jaetopus
a change in management makes SO much difference
Shard
It really, really does.
Shard
I love my new store leader! She's lovely!
Shard
But, like I told her when even SHE started complaining about the micromanagey bullshit? "And that's the reason I didn't try for your job."
Shard
Oh. Another thing.
Shard
We hired a new girl...week before last. Seemed nice enough, but I was in on a long day with her, was already annoyed with the cluster manager for trying to teach me how to suck eggs...
Shard
Apparently, I was 'overly negative' about the company and made her rethink wanting to work there.
Shard
And like...that is ENTIRELY possible. Though I don't think I was being very negative. I was more letting her know how things would go eventually.
Shard
But one person's truth is another person's negativity, I guess.
Jaetopus
hahaaaaa oh boy, they'd love how I talk with my coworkers
Jaetopus
sorry, you must have meant to hire a robot, but you got me, OH WELL
Shard
Anyway, they had interviewed another woman at the same time and they just got her number and have called her and she started today. She already feels like a better fit.
