it's v interesting to me what parts draw different people in, because it's all over the place tonally - in a way that i think really works, but i know others have felt differently
i have an rl friend who tapped out halfway through because she found the 2021 storyline so terminally dull; meanwhile i sometimes find myself looking at my metaphorical watch if the 1996 segments stretch on for too long
i think i'm a bit more forgiving of him than a lot of people in the fandom are, but i'm only even a little invested because his eventual death is so important to nat's story
(which would bother me a lot more if he were still alive, tbh; her mooning after a living travis would feel grating to me but her grieving a dead travis is my catnip)
she's just such an amazing combo of scary + pitiful as well as (sometimes) well-meaning + (usually) extremely harmful and i will stop taking over your plurk now june but your honor i love her
