I suppose that can wait. But it's going to happen. Once they're used to him. He's probably wormed between the wall and the pen, then? Secure and closer to the interesting new things?
It's just a place he can. And with handling, some chickens can be downright snuggly. (you should have met the silkie rooster that came over for my nephew's farm-themed kid's party along with the mini horse his babysitter had. Cuddly boy.)
( b ) i feel like you will appreciate this story. I was in Mexico for a writer's residency thing a few months ago and for SOME REASON the property had like 14 adult rabbits and a BROOD of baby rabbits (like seriously 16 or so)
everyone else spent like a week trying to catch and pet rabbits and one day I just got a bunch of kitchen scraps from the cooks and climbed down in their patio enclosure thing and sat down and put food around me and twenty minutes later i had 10 fluffy baby friends
I still remember watching one of the vet shows where they had the horrific situation that the male got the female rabbit pregnant immediately after birth. Poor girl was in major distress from the strain.
I'll make sure my ginormous physical assist dog I keep saying I should get will have training so he just lays down and plays livestock guardian when he's off duty.
I don't tolerate animals who jump. I've shocked people by training their usually unmanageable pets that this is not okay just by body language and ignoring until they're under control.
i HATE being touched when I don't want to be and it's amazing how many people are like "but he loves you" uhhh no. except, yeah, the dogs usually figure out I don't want to be jumped on and are happy to wait
I even taught a pair of parents who got stuck with a high-prey-drive English Staffordshire Terrier when their son's college pet couldn't be trusted around the new baby that she had some issues with insecurity.
It was mostly that she really was totally not a dominant animal but being left to just be, and it wasn't great for her. Once she started really getting the physical energy out and some time she stopped a lot of the terrier terror problems. Although nobody was happy when she mauled the cat.
Yeah I often end up with anxious animals liking to come lay on me teens too but we gotta work on the appropriate touch thing I steer clear of dogs because they're a lot of work, but I really enjoy them when we get to that place of understanding
yep yep yep i had an ex who, right after we decided to move in, wanted a puppy. had never had a dog. Again. My mother not only is a zookeeper but BRED and TRAINED dogs. My whole life.
My best friend was literally herded to the spot where the isolated members of the herd wait for the vet and pinned by a pair of working pyrs for being a little under the weather.
she of course became destructive by like 3 months. so I said to get a trainer. so he...put her in all day dog day care cause his mom would pay for it. I was like DON'T YOU'RE GOING TO TEACH HER THAT'S NORMAL AND SHE'S GONNA BE A DISASTER IN 3 MONTHS
well guess what. So I started working her every day, even though I'm low energy, so we got to a place that she'd just chill with me b/c she knew we'd work, but she was nuts for him, and he was so mad at me
That's my big worry with getting a physical assist. Because the breeds that are best for that work are all highly active, and most are heavy-coated which I don't like in AZ.
She actually trains for various therapy/assist things and they def like the work. I know they get a little miserable in the summer, but not to the level I expected. not like huskies
My big things is I need to get into a place where things will allow a dog reasonably well and then do my homework and find the resources to get an animal that will work. Like a lot of people would say poodle, but standards are such work.
I can get my moms work info for you one of these days. They may be good to talk to and I know they had some programs to assist with costs of dogs and training too.
also balthier is very proud of not being a total aristocratic dolt tyvm he has spent a lot of time in all sorts of lifestyle please give him shit for being fancy
