most of vyng's cross-canon CR doesn't realize his ability to breathe underwater 100% hinges on his state of mind, and that he is capable of drowning if he's under duress lmao
pretty sure we handwaved Mako seeing him gets his gills in the memshare stuff in January. so he might have some idea of the spiritual significance behind it, idk
most of it involved escaping from a stampede of ice rhinos, and then getting into hand-to-hand combat with some rich elf kids on their dad's yacht....which i feel like mako would have appreciated, actually LOL
'cause they're just like "NOT HAPPENING, YOU GARBAGE POOR PEOPLE! STAY WHERE YOU BELONG" while sipping mimosas and making servants play the violin for them and just generally being privileged brats
anyway, aside from all that....he realizes he's got a bunch of trauma from back home to unpack. but a lot of his older memories are still fuzzy and distorted on account of being reincarnated
I love Jessica's description of Billie waking up every morning and casually sorting through his memories, and how he can apparently fast-forward and rewind through them like a movie. it's so cute
really hoping we get more vyng backstory in seasons 9 and 10. i have some ideas/theories, but it really doesn't take much for shit to go into a tailspin in this show
but i personally like to think the whole "the ideal elf doesn't change" culture clash paul's talked about before isn't a fundamental incompatibility with Druidism....and actually points to a society that's been trapped under a certain elf king's thumb for thousands of years :x
i also think it's interesting that vyng was initially raised to be a soldier in the military? at least, according to that same convo....which, in hindsight, makes his "whAT's a SiEge?" bit at the library hit differently
but anyway, classism and social stratification are themes that frequently come up in spout lore, so the whole "elves stay rooted" ideal would fit into that. but who can say!!
but yeah, after the meditation log, he'll likely start looking outward again. i'm hoping to have him engage more directly in his CR's shenanigans, like he did in Deer 1, while also looking into ways to spiritually commune with the land on his own time
You can live, breathe, and move underwater with ease.
"yeah, we fucking know, you have gills dude"
