Quinneapolis
punpun vol 2
Quinneapolis
God, stop telling Punpun to kill people he just had his bisexual awakening
Quinneapolis
this kid is either gonna go to prison for killing a guy or become a billionaire
Quinneapolis
I'm having a hard time really relating to Punpun's uncle's tragic story
Quinneapolis
of how a really hot high school girl wanted to hang out around him being really hot all the time, when he was in his twenties
Quinneapolis
and then she kissed you and tried to have sex with you but you cramed her in a closet and had sex with your girlfriend while she was in there
Quinneapolis
that seems like maybe this shouldn't be your backstory anymore
Quinneapolis
man uncle's whole life is a series of women ten years younger than him throwing themselves at him
Quinneapolis
maybe aiko is bad actually
Quinneapolis
volume 2 done
Quinneapolis
I still don't know if I like it or not
Quinneapolis
I think my two simultaneous impressions are
Quinneapolis
- This is a brutally raw and honest look at the darkness of the human experience
Quinneapolis
and
Quinneapolis
- The female characters in this manga sure do exist only as props in the lives of the male characters
Quinneapolis
like the teenager in punpun uncle's backstory
Quinneapolis
lives in an abusive household, literally tied to a post and kept prisoner in her own home
Quinneapolis
a boy in her class gets her pregnant
Quinneapolis
she has an abortion
Quinneapolis
all her friends ostracize her about it
Quinneapolis
falls for puncle
Quinneapolis
tries to sleep with him
Quinneapolis
gets shoved into a closet while the man she loves has sex with someone else really loudly in the same room
Quinneapolis
bemoans that there is no good
Quinneapolis
disappears from his life
Quinneapolis
he never got her name
Quinneapolis
and the whole story
Quinneapolis
is about why puncle is afraid of relationships
Quinneapolis
she and all of her entire life of torment and tragedy exist to add depth to him
Quinneapolis
Aiko spends the story on a weird pedestal because Punpun is incapable of seeing her as anything other than his destined lover, Yuuichi's sister exists entirely as the butt of her own joke, Punpun's mom was mainly there to get abused by his dad
Quinneapolis
there's still five volumes left so maybe this goes somewhere better but
Quinneapolis
I can't stop thinking about that girl
Quinneapolis
she doesn't even get the dignity of her suffering being her own story
Quinneapolis
she doesn't even get to have a name
RobotApocalypse
it's been a long time since i read it but i think aiko gets to be more fleshed out as they age. but yeah it is kind of a problem that the female characters don't really get to exist as their own people
RobotApocalypse
also christ i completely forgot about that whole backstory for the uncle. he's such a fucking dirtbag.
RobotApocalypse
i don't think the story ever really intends for you to find him sympathetic though. like, obviously he's fishing for sympathy, but he's such a horrible human being that all you can feel is disgust
