So. Old video games. Password systems.
Quinneapolis
In some older games, especially in the NES era but also in the early SNES era, there was no save function on the cart
Quinneapolis
so instead you had to write down and enter passwords to access game states
Quinneapolis
this worked, generally
Quinneapolis
until

Dragon's Lair SNES
Quinneapolis
the turbogeniuses behind this nightmare game had an IDEA
Quinneapolis
and the idea was
Quinneapolis
what if newbie players just get a late game password and use it to skip to the end of the game?
Quinneapolis
and their solution to this was
Quinneapolis
Quinneapolis
The system for entering passwords is a level.
Quinneapolis
And the passwords for more advanced states are physically harder to enter.
Quinneapolis
You can DIE on the password screen.

fun fact: kusogrande actually has used what they call the "dragons lair password boss" in their gauntlets as recently as two weeks ago
BERSERKER

Quinneapolis
yeah I'm watching that right now
BERSERKER
there are other "password boss" games but dragon's lair may be one of the ones that will actually murder you
BERSERKER
one of the only ones*

I believe at one point Dowolff described Hoshi wo Miru Hito's password system as one since it's 40 characters and those characters include:
- all katakana
- all hiragana
- capital roman letters A-Z
- numbers 1-9
- the copyright symbol for some reason
RobotApocalypse
