What the hell is wrong with authors on twitter?

WEH I DONT WANT ANY NEGATIVE OPINIONS ON MY WRITING WEEEEEH
яαвιєѕ
And not too long ago there were a bunch of threads about how if you're an author you shouldn't post negative opinions about books of other authors. (._. ) Some with the implication that if you're just starting, you might get blacklisted.

Lies if needed, too.

if...if someone found something wrong with my book I'd...be happy to listen and learn from it
Maidstrong
just because it's been published does not mean a work is perfect
Maidstrong
wtf
яαвιєѕ
Apparently it's not meant to be about reviews, but like... What IS it about, then???
Horny on Main
If someone found something wrong in my published book I WANNA KNOW SO THE NEXT ONE IS BETTER, SHEESH
Horny on Main
Sounds like somebody is too thin-skinned to be published
Horny on Main
Also: YOU CAN'T PLEASE EVERYBODY deal with it
яαвιєѕ
No, but this is rampart among authors on twitter, especially ya authors.

illin' klorvus
well, people very frequently directly message and email authors their opinions about a book
illin' klorvus
this probably is genuinely not about reviews, or if it is it's about people tagging that author in a tweet about it or something
illin' klorvus
but authors do get legit emails being like "you need to change x" and it's like okay, well...i can't
illin' klorvus
and the random people sending emails almost definitely do not have valuable ideas that you can take forward into writing your next book lol
illin' klorvus
because if they have valuable ideas and a strong grasp of how to give useful feedback, they probably know that just randomly cold emailing an author isn't the way to communicate it (and indeed that there often IS no way to communicate it unsolicited)
яαвιєѕ
I mean, fair, but like... She could say that. That's just dancing around it in a way that makes you sound weird fire anyone not in the know.
illin' klorvus
she was presumably talking to book twitter, who IS in the know
illin' klorvus
this doesn't read as dancing around it to me
illin' klorvus
she probably didn't expect these tweets to reach an audience that didn't already know about this issue
illin' klorvus
like i agree that the blue checks are ridiculous about some things lmao don't get me wrong, but in this case what she's saying makes sense to her intended audience
яαвιєѕ
I guess I can't argue with that.
illin' klorvus
and it is generally accepted courtesy not to tag an author in a negative review, if an author wants to see negative reviews they can seek that out themselves
яαвιєѕ
I mean, you'd think you'd either not tag at or tag either way, otherwise not tagging it just signalling the content.
яαвιєѕ
Which I guess is the point but like... Just seems unnecessary to me?
illin' klorvus
frankly the real problem is that publishing basically requiring authors to be on twitter is wildly unhealthy for the industry and for most of the authors
яαвιєѕ
I certainly don't disagree.
illin' klorvus
it's the same "you must be constantly available" shit that we're understanding we shouldn't have to put up with in any other job
illin' klorvus
for about 5% of the pay lol
