Here's MY take about nolan batman scenes but it's stupid instead of appreciative or insightful
Quinneapolis
there's a scene in batman begins
Quinneapolis
where bruce wayne is in the mountains learning to be a ninja
Quinneapolis
and he's out in a blizzard being cold
Quinneapolis
and rubbing his arms
Quinneapolis
and his mentor is like "worry about your chest, your extremities will take care of themselves"
Quinneapolis
is that not, like
Quinneapolis
how frostbite happens
Quinneapolis
and your hands fall off
Rama
Yes. However, your core getting cold is how you die.
Rama
It's still bad advice that makes no biological sense.
Quinneapolis
I'm starting to think that maybe ra's al-ghul wasn't a perfect mentor to batman
Rama
I guess in the sense that "they will fall off to preserve your core temperature and you'll only be down a hand instead of dead", they'll "take care of themselves".
𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗡𝗲𝘄𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿!
i like to think he just wanted to see how long this rich fuck would last
Lightning Bolt
okay fair who among us would not try to trick a billionaire into getting frostbite
Tyra
my problem with the ra's stuff was that batman refuses to kill a prisoner then escapes, setting the building on fire and assuredly killing said prisoner
𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗡𝗲𝘄𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿!
i would actively do everything in my power to give a billionaire frostbite
Quinneapolis
there's a lot of weird bat-morality in that one
Quinneapolis
the whole "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you" thing like bruh you put in a lot of work here
Tyra
and then in the next movie he kills Harvey Dent
Quinneapolis
anyway let's have two face be the main batman villain for a few years
Quinneapolis
his gimmick is good
Quinneapolis
AMA about batman opinions
Tyra
is the batsuit better blue and grey or black and grey
Quinneapolis
I think black but it's close
𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗡𝗲𝘄𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿!
your fave non-comic continuity
Quinneapolis
brave and the bold
🏔️ndrusi
is the lego batman movie a valid batman continuity
Quinneapolis
yes
Tyra
which robin is the best
Quinneapolis
honestly i'm just not really into robin. which one is the one who's just improbably sexy and getting constant butt shots in the comics, I think that's funny
PolyaMixedNuts
my understanding from a life in MN is that if he uses his arms to rub his chest, his arms will get warmed up as well from using them for rubbing - it's specifically good cold weather advice. however, he'll lose some toes for sure.
Freakin Bat
Dick Greyson Robin
Quinneapolis
that's the one
PolyaMixedNuts
Dick Grayson
PolyaMixedNuts
I should add though that in a case where you have been submerged in freezing water
PolyaMixedNuts
"rubbing" is simply insufficient
PolyaMixedNuts
you need to get your clothes off and get dry heat all around you
Quinneapolis
I'll let dick grayson know
Rama
Tyra : In fairness that was accidental and he retires in angst immediately afterward
Rama
But it's a bizarre double standard
Rama
(Still beats Schumacher Batman more or less killing him on purpose after spending the whole movie lecturing Dick about killing)
Tyra
I have basically been satisfied with no cinematic Batman's take on the no kill rule :x
Quinneapolis
the one that drives me crazy is a scene at the start of arkham asylum
Quinneapolis
where joker goes "I KNOW YOU WON'T KILL ME SO HERE, HAVE A FREE SHOT"
Quinneapolis
batman: /stands there awkwardly
Quinneapolis
joker: "GOTCHA! BYE TIME TO DO THE GAME PLOT"
Quinneapolis
batman just grapple up there and punch him out
Quinneapolis
nonlethals are a whole thing
big woop
Look at this point he's probably accidentally punched enough people to death to be a little leery of punching someone who is pointedly not attacking him
big woop
Because he's a dumdum
big woop
A big Batidiot
dragon time
He has batcuffs
Quinneapolis
he spends the next 30 hours beating people senseless
oh i'm scary
I mean in Arkham Asylum's case
oh i'm scary
Joker's standing on a precarious thing over an inexplicable bottomless pit
oh i'm scary
it'd probably be pretty tricky to attack him without letting him fall to his death
oh i'm scary
it's the kind of tricky thing he has to do all the time, admittedly,
oh i'm scary
but generally not a situation he engineers on purpose
oh i'm scary
anyway yeah he kills so many fucking people in Batman Begins and doesn't think they count
oh i'm scary
like
oh i'm scary
MOST of the people in the League of Shadows HQ probably died
oh i'm scary
and it's not murder but I also think a lot about like
oh i'm scary
"I worked with thieves, but I never became one of them" and it reveals that the stuff he was stealing belonged to Wayne Enterprises so therefore he was the rightful owner anywthat's not how anything works Bruce
oh i'm scary
same with Lucius Fox letting him take experimental weapons home for free because "it's all yours anyway"
oh i'm scary
Christopher Nolan that is called embezzlement
oh i'm scary
also to backtrack to the stolen stuff, it was being shipped by an American company to somewhere in Nebulously Asia, Bruce, I'm pretty sure it had been sold and didn't even actually belong to the company, you don't just permanently own anything that comes in a box with your name on it
Rama
You could make an argument if Bruce was the sole proprietor but Wayne Enterprises is pretty clearly publicly traded.
oh i'm scary
I've been thinking about this for so long and this is the only conversation in which it's ever been relevant okay
Rama
On the experimental tech embezzling, I mean
oh i'm scary
yeah
oh i'm scary
I guess it's a plot point that like
oh i'm scary
the company was about to BECOME publicly traded
oh i'm scary
and he prevented that
oh i'm scary
but I still kind of doubt
oh i'm scary
that you can do that with technology commissioned by the military
