One of my housemates of mine is having to defend books in his school library from being banned and it gets wilder every day. (He's a middle school librarian in the US.)

The books are for the LGBTQI+ crowd.

His principal is just being utterly AWFUL throughout this. I keep wanting her to like, learn something?

There was an attempt by a conservative parent group here in VA to collect books they did not agree with by having their kids check them out of the school libraries and then show up to a school board meeting and burn them all in the parking lot. It got shut down real quick when they made a FB group for it and someone alerted said school board.

Anyways. He has the ACLU, ALU, and a few other sources on tap. It's like watching a librarian assemble the Avengers.

Whoever was behind the group on FB even said in their info post that they were aware that they would have to pay for the books but that was fine because it "kept them out of the hands of children" or whatever for a year.

They have no idea how libraries work. The librarian could order a copy of the book from a DIFFERENT library for the kids to borrow.

The plan was to try and remove them from as many local libraries as possible iirc. A screenshot of the group's page got posted to the FB page of the town I work in by someone who was like, "Uh head's up about this bullshit."

The group for it got reported and taken down pretty quickly.

Tell them the thing is bad and the curious kids will go right for it to find out WHY.

I was reminded of it because it popped up in a YT video I was watching earlier.
