he's like 20 and he's the closest thing to an adult on the ship so everyone just decided he's the emotional authority, including him

he's not allowed to have a panic attack, which is why he didn't for the first like 20 episodes

then a kid dies on his watch and he immediately shatters under stress

shaking in bed while mumbling orders to dead people

Mirai can be the adult until you wake up

the worst part is like

a lot of what's going on in the episode is asserting that she kind of can't

which is partly just her being a woman in a Tomino show

but also like

Bright's curse, like Amuro's

is that he's actually quite good at his job

more than anybody else available to sub in for him

his job is just unbelievably hard and stressful
