not only is this a jackass with the kind of asshole controlling mentality that should never be allowed near another person entrusting them with so many vulnerable aspects of themselves
if they can't separate their personal biases and opinions from methods that genuinely helps others, they need to pick a different profession to go into
for one, you don't accuse people of lying about a method that helps them. for another, trauma processing is ongoing, no matter how it's done, I call bullshit on them even being a psychology student, tbh
this is why I'm so damn afraid of these people if they end up therapists bc like we straight up are gonna have people afraid to create things, alongside another litany of issues bc some bitch can't get it through their chronically internet head that expressing forbidden things via art is healthy.
I was going to go with 'studies it on the internet/looked at a wiki page once and because i have an interest in it and i am a gud rsrchr i can call myself a student'
healing via shaming and rebuking the 'bad' thing instead of like... knowing what it is, and if you like, maybe exploring it, defanging. and owning it without anyone being harmed is VERY VERY CHRISTIAN.
I've literally laughed my arse off at people who told me my coping is stupid. Sorry, but my coping is my coping and you don't get to tell me how to deal with shit. :|
so there was literally a story on NPR the other day about csa, how it's dealt with (or not dealt with) on the legal side and what is/needs to be done to help these kids
according to her, there's "kids" who entered the program at 10 who are still there talking with people and getting help at 24, a decade and a half later
And according to both her and another psychologist interviewed, this sort of long term support is necessary because of how long term the trauma effects are
so like, the experts know this, and are talking about this publicly, antis just don't care what professionals and professional organizations are saying about their profession
it's not really about helping people with their trauma, if they really did care, they would at least accept that healing takes all sorts of forms, some you may not like. but people like this are concerned about their disgust, and what they personally wish to do, and making themselves look like they've been doing the right thing.
literally the whole reason i decided to go into media instead of psychology like i planned was because of twitter and seeing how weird yall are with coping mechanisms
considering what I know about what my coworkers study and teach in communications, writing, theater, and art, "media studies" is also going to eat them alive
This fool: "ew, only freaks make this freak art" media studies: and now let's look at the history of infanticide as a narrative tool of reclaiming control of one's life and protecting one's young from the atrocities of the world in poc art
...where was I going with this OH RIGHT. And what guts me is that dumb Mcgee And Me video was SO CLOSE to making a good point: "hey there's stuff out there that will absolutely be painful for you, so know thyself and thy comfort zones, and be okay with skipping the stuff you don't like."
I mean if you're so easy to judge people and call them freaks and weirdos, maybe don't go into psychology. Like don't get me wrong, people are freaks and weirdos. That's what makes them people!
Purity culture is SUPER conservative in how it operates, and also like... people SHOULD NOT tell others how to cope with their trauma. That's just insensitive.
I honestly worry a lot about the sorta environment places like twitter and tumblr fandom circles cultivate. I see a lot of echo chambers and shaming people for things that aren't even that "bad" in an ugly sense
like some of the most unpleasant or obnoxious people on the internet believe in 'one size fits all' healing and often times they don't know actual shit about psychology or they do know a little, but are so far up their own ass, they don't seem to get what works for you, won't necessarily work for others.
and dont lie and say its working bc if it was working you would have stopped
AND STOP GUILT TRIPPING AINT NOBODY FEELING BAD FO U
literally the whole reason i decided to go into media instead of psychology like i planned was because of twitter and seeing how weird yall are with coping mechanisms
media studies: and now let's look at the history of infanticide as a narrative tool of reclaiming control of one's life and protecting one's young from the atrocities of the world in poc art
oh boy, that means studying the ugliest (in terms of content, objectively) media and why people go to them
"Therapy"
"Okay do you know what actual reputable, licensed therapists have to say about healing"
