Ask me stuff about my canons that you don't know or only know via osmosis!
(cw: mentions of suicide in a peripheral character)
BethampHATamine
Because I hecking love talking about Worm.
Mad Larkin
Are everyone's powers horrifying?
BethampHATamine
No! Some people have un-horrifying powers like flight or force shields. Taylor got a bad draw.
Mad Larkin
that's good, for them
BethampHATamine
But all powers in Worm are triggered by trauma, so the balance does tend to skew bad.
BethampHATamine
People have a predisposition to a type of power (administrator, in T's case), and then the nature of the trigger event defines the specifics (trapped in a trash-filled locker > bugs).
Mad Larkin
oh, that's pretty grimdark
BethampHATamine
For another example, Tattletale, Dinah, and Contessa are all observer-types and could have developed identical powers. Tattletale's trauma was being blamed for not knowing her brother was going to kill himself, and the resultant power is super-educated guessing, near omnipotence if she has any context on a subject.
BethampHATamine
Dinah triggered when her school was attacked by a cape, and her power is predicting the odds of any future event, especially a casualty event, with decimal accuracy.
BethampHATamine
Contessa triggered when trapped in an inevitable-death scenario, and her power is 'seeing the path to victory,' which is very similar to Dinah's but focused on actions, not odds.
BethampHATamine
for something that starts as YA superhero 'I'm not like the other girls' fiction, Worm ends up hella grimdark.
Lady Stardust
I love Tattletale
Lady Stardust
I've kind of paused reading it but I'll be back
BethampHATamine
She's fantastic.
