[Yeehaw] Just watched Tombstone for the first time. A Good Film. Although I'm gonna be a heathen and say I like Doc Holliday from Wynonna Earp more than the one from that lol

PrincessBatty
The tv series?

Eyebot
...yes

Eyebot
I can forgive his mustache

PrincessBatty
I've never seen it, I didn't know they had a Doc.

Eyebot
I'm shallow and think he's very nice haha

Eyebot
I mean, Wynonna Earp is a sort of ... Buffy-level affair in terms of being Generally Silly, but it's fun enough and Doc is a very fun character, though I have to admit I've not seen all of it

PrincessBatty
I'm running out of westerns to watch so I may have to give it a go

Eyebot
I... same. Though I am about to watch 3:10 to Yuma, so I guess that counts. I have a big collection of old Clint Eastwood films that're always fun (though I'm not into John Wayne) ... Deadwood is good, Westworld is good (at least season 1 and 2 were, not seen more) ...

Eyebot
Though take my opinion of stuff carefully, because I unironically love Wild Wild West and my first Western type film when I was a wee kiddo was Fievel Goes West so I have a weirdly placed bar for A Bit Silly But Sort Of Enjoyable Anyway

Bippy
I watched some of the old TV: Wild Wild West so I was so hyped for the movie

Eyebot
The movie was Ridiculous and Silly but ... I saw it at the cinema back when I was young, when it came out, and I remember having a nice time, so it might be daft but it has a special place in my heart, haha.

Bippy
it was very over the top. Giant steam-punk spider war machines make any movie 80% better

Eyebot
YES. That stupid steampunk spider, haha.

Black🎃Cat
I tend to shy away from a lot of Western themed things? Just because I connect them so heavily to my conservative family's nonsense and having to watch Two Mules for Sister Sara five billion times when I was younger. But maybe I should try to change that up. Any recs specifically?

Eyebot
I mean, I'll always recommend the tv show of Westworld, because it's a high-budget western-themed android-y affair and I'm here for that, ditto Wynonna Earp, which isn't Western but takes themes from it and is a weird Girl With A Revenant Killing Gun thing.

Eyebot
I also like Rango, because I'm a child

Eyebot
I do like the Clint Eastwood films, but if you're scarred by Two Mules, I would avoid. 3:10 to Yuma is good, but sort of tragic. I also like Salvation, but this may or may not be because I really like Mads Mikkelsen

Eyebot
And my favourite film of all time is Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and I will die on that hill, so.

Eyebot
Not quite a western, but ... shhh

Bippy
Hey... Rango was good. lol

Eyebot
Rango was really good. The character design of Rattlesnake Jake is just ... /chef's kiss

Eyebot
Also, talking of things which aren't Westerns but also totally are really, The Mandalorian. It's 100% a Western.

Bippy
It was part Spaghetti Western part Hunter Thompson

Black🎃Cat
Thank you! I just needed kind of a jumping point and now I've got some plans.

Eyebot
It's like a weird cross between Spaghetti Westerns and Kurosawa films which ... I think was intentional, especially since the former were influenced by the latter. Even the theme tune sounds like the one from the anime Samurai 7.

Eyebot
Also obviously RDR2! Not a film/series, obviously, but ... very good western. Just if you watch a play-through don't judge me on my character taste haha

Black🎃Cat
I very much loved the first game, and... I watched some of the side stuff from RDR2.

Eyebot
Ooh. c: Well... Javier is a cinnamon roll, Micah is trash and Charles is a perfect beloved angel and I can't apologise for liking any of them ... except Micah idek he's horrible

Eyebot
Arthur's a great protagonist though. I didn't actually play RDR1 so it baffled me that people wanted to play as John

Bippy
RDR 1&2 Have no right being so good. Honestly they're better westerns than some film/tv ones.

Black🎃Cat
I honestly love how we trash our favs. Yes, they're awful! Yes, they're problematic. They're bastards!

Black🎃Cat
No one recognizes it more than the fans okay.

Bippy
I'm trash though... two of my favorite westerns are Blazing Saddles and Cannibal: The Musical

Sun Pumpkin
Westerns aren’t as much my thing, but if you don’t like John Wayne you might like the remake of True Grit

Black🎃Cat
Duly noted! Thank you!

PrincessBatty
Hidalgo is amazing

PrincessBatty
Unforgiven is a masterpiece though deeply sad

PrincessBatty
Tombstone and Wyatt Earp (two different films) are both very good.

PrincessBatty
I even enjoy the extremely cracky Oblivion movies. But I am a B movie lover and Fullmoon Pictures will always have my heart.

PrincessBatty
I've just recently rewatched Deadwood and Hell on Wheels

PrincessBatty
I had started Godless, probably need to restart it cause I forgot where I was.

PrincessBatty
Bone Tomahawk and Burrowers are both good wester horrors

Black🎃Cat
Thank you so much. Seriously, this has given me a great list.

PrincessBatty
Ravenous is a black comedy more than straight up horror

PrincessBatty
You might dig Jonah Hex if you liked the new Wild Wild West

Black🎃Cat
I've got such a big list now.

Eyebot
Ravenous with Robert Carlyle?? /adds tobown list

Eyebot
To own**

PrincessBatty
Yes! He is fantastic in it, as he is in everything

Eyebot
Definitely watching that, I love him. I am ... I have to admit, one if Stargate Universe's 4 fans haha

Eyebot
Of* excuse typos, my phone's keyboard is an arse
