I'm basing this mostly on my memories of when the hubs had shorter hair versus his hair now

okay so like, I also have hair that is very thick and prone to matting when long, and I lost my mind a lil and buzzed it off last summer

there was something really liberating about making that choice, showering and sleeping got a lot easier, and also my head was very fuzzy and fun to touch for a while

I hated how it looked until it grew back out to pixie cut length, but it was so much more comfortable

and also short hair is a LOT easier to do a quick dry shampoo on when you Just Can't with showering

(a light dusting of cornstarch rubbed into the hair is honestly kind of amazing for making yourself look presentable and feel less gross with minimal time and effort)

my scalp flips its shit when i cut my hair drastically and overproduces slime for a few days but then it scales back appropriately
