Just watched The Many Saints of Newark. It’s not what I expected but I still enjoyed it. Minor spoilers inside.

I expected a standard prequel but it really was more like a spin-off film that used the sopranos cannon and married it with real history.

Okay, that's an interesting take. I was thinking of going to see it tomorrow, but my BIL said it was disappointing.

Gabs : if you really wanted a true Sopranos prequel, yeah, you would definitely be disappointed. I get it. And I would have liked a true prequel, but I'm not mad because it was still really well executed. It dealt a lot with racism and misogyny, which made it feel more current in a lot of ways, but the filming style was very old school in a good way

what did you think was missing as a prequel? I felt it was a really good prequel, and the cast was spot on. I would like to see this continue on as a series, instead of another film.

✴Sparkling✴ : to be a prequel, Tony would have had to have been the main character. Or maybe his parents or grandparents even. The film focuses on Dickie and even Harold way more than Tony and his closer family members. It’s not a criticism. I think it was a good film but I’d not call it a prequel

David Chase said he would do sequels to this as long as the co-writer joined him. I don’t think he wants to do another series though
