I mean British and American food has lots of weirdness and interesting things, speaking as a non-Brit/American. People just don't see it in their own food
a lot of people from other places consider blood-based dishes weird, to which northern/central/eastern Europeans go ????it tasty????? (or at least: traditional, if not tasty) (northern Europe, reminder, includes the UK)
my point really is - if you think your local food has no oddities and traditional unusual ingredients, or your local food tastes bland, maybe your understanding of local food is very limited ...is what I'd say to someone who calls other countries' food odd
my least favourite area specific food is Blockmalz which is malt in candy form and really gross imo. I mean cow brains also used to be a local traditional food, but that kind of ended when crazy cow disease happened. So not sure if to count it any more.
it's fish (usually cod) dried & salted and then pickled in lye. then when you want to eat it, you rehydrate it. but the way my dad said our swedish relatives described it was that you take a board, slap a fish on it, salt and dry the fish, slap on some lye, leave it for three months then scrape off the fish and eat the board
also I will not deny that I find certain northern chinese foods....................VERY STRANGEWHO INVENTED STINKY TOFU. WHY.STINKY TOFU IS DELICIOUS
