anyway I ended up thinking more about the Medea-Harrow comparison and then also ended up thinking again about the weird feeling I had about the book making a point of Harrow not being a murderer

and ultimately I just don’t like that on a broader scale, sympathy towards a character is treated as conditional to their actions

which even if that wasn’t the intent with Harrow still really really feels like it since like all the details about her backstory and also two different “actually Harrow DIDN’T kill a man” reveals were all bunched up into roughly the same part of the book

oddly I would still say I like Harrow more than Medea as a character bc Medea has a bit more like, smoothness, and I appreciate disasters, but I do really appreciate her handling in comparison

villain protagonists exist but I don’t have a lot of confidence in saying I could handle a villain protagonist narrative

but like I really like Cangrande as a character. also having him as the main character in a story would feel weird since [checks notes] the estimated sentence akudamax gave me for his crimes is 642 years apparently

but then when I try to make characters who feel like they would work better as protagonists, a lot of the time I’m just not as attached to them lmao

honestly I also don’t like NEED Harrow to have been a person who kills people, I just don’t like that it was arranged so that it’s hinged to Gideon and by proxy the audience accepting her
