[D&D] I know nothing of the game, so I'm curious to hear some of you guys' take on this (especially Axe Goth Real? ).

D&D: Hey I'm Sorry, But 4th Edition Was Great - Bell...
Old Wolf Winter
I never played any of 4th at all, but the major complaint that I heard with specificity was in terms of character building - your wizard would barely feel any different from your buddy's fighter, no matter what options you picked
Old Wolf Winter
the stepping stone notion is almost certainly correct though, it led 5th edition to having "short" and "long" rest periods, and different abilities would be available after one or the other, leading to a bit of fun resource management tht's not too complicated
Old Wolf Winter
that's*
Axe Goth Real?
This article's pretty accurate and I'm glad to see people are finally letting the kneejerk "it changed so it sucked" attitude fall away to see it was an incredibly polished game.
Axe Goth Real?
Was it perfect? No, there's some issues; you basically have to pirate the old character builder to make a character in a time shorter than a day. Monster HP is way big unless your party is going nuts with the improvised/stunt action damage table.
Axe Goth Real?
But it was a pretty logical evolution of what they had been experimenting with as of the end of 3.5 and SW Saga edition, and the fact that 5e walks back huge chunks of it because people got mad is disappointing to me.
