(Spiders. No pics)
Siv
So because we often forget to move the screen door, a big spider has decided to weave a giant web connecting that door to the side of the wall. Right where a lot of mosquitoes like to gather!
Siv
So I turned on the light and watched the spider react to all the mosquitoes gathering where so much light was - and get tangled up in the web.
Siv
And I also wrote an eye-level little sign so that maybe mom won't break the web next time she goes out there. At least for now.
Siv
This spider can be left alone so long as he doesn't come inside, as far as I'm concerned. XD
Siv
(otherwise I'll probably try to use some paper or something to coax him back out.)
Siv
But man, this spider works fast. I watched a very large mosquito get woven up into threads in less than ten seconds.

Yeah we have a spider in our laundry room, which has a door outside and I just leave them alone.
Siv
ye!
Siv
Def gonna leave this guy alone to feast on all the bugs <3
Siv
Means fewer come out to get me
Siv
(mosquitoes love me and I hate it)
Sterlyn
Awww
Siv
I'm also pretty arachnophobic so. XD
Siv
The first time I saw this spider was a few days ago and my gut reactions were fear and then awe because BIG
Sterlyn
We had one hanging outside one of the windows of one of the classes at our building.
Siv
x3
Sterlyn
Also when I was in high school (so years ago lol) we had two black widows that hung around our front door. We warned people to leave them alone, and they took care of all the bugs.
Siv
nice.
Sterlyn
I am happy to hear he is going to help you with your bugs though.
Siv
Yes! And it's pretty fascinating to watch him do stuff.
Siv
At a safe distance from behind a glass door.
Siv
okay just behind a glass door
Siv
I've gotten pretty close because, well glass door. He can't get in or land on my face and scare me.
Siv
So watching him spin up a mosquito was really cool
Sterlyn
Yeah I think when you have chances to look close up that's awesome.
Siv
ye!!
Sterlyn
:-) Science
Siv
xD
Siv
It's definitely a good way to help me get used to seeing them and feel less afraid of them.
Siv
I can handle super tiny ones, though!

spider buddy! i try to be cool with spiders as long as they don't crawl on me. same with bees. they're good friends
'Sail
oh man, I bet the glass door is letting you get a show that I'd be super jealous of....
'Sail
I love playing with the little harvestman friends as it is. they're such gentle little tickly things....
'Sail
I remember thinking as a kid that they looked a little like the balls of hair my mom'd pull out of her brush, more than proper spiders. (LOL)
'Sail
and then seeing my dad show me I could just scoop them right up, but had to be gentle, because they were fragile, but harmless, and encourage me to put them outside....
Siv
I went to open the sliding glass door to let the pups out to pee and the spider's web tore in half at the bottom! D:
Siv
Looks like mister spider makes his web at night and then lets it go during the day.
Siv
He almost got a mosquito that was 3 times his size, but it flew away....
Siv
I also got a few pictures, but I won't post them here.
Siv
But for anyone that does want to see them, I can set up a PP.
'Sail
that'd be lovely. :-D
Siv
No pics yet because I just go back to my laptop, but as a note:
-By default, my brothers and I tend to call all spiders "Henry"
-Henry is pretty smart and has realized that the best time for her to eat is at night, when the glass door doesn't move as much.
-Henry may be readying up some eggs, because her(?) behind got bigger.
Siv
*got back
Siv
Nope, just growing. Turns out Henry is an orb weaver!
