If you had the choice between walking with crutches for the rest of your life or having your leg amputated, what would you choose ? Scenario (1) you get to keep your leg but live in pain (going on 10 years) and need crutches to get around. Scenario (2) if all goes well you may hopefully walk on a prosthetic leg without canes. Please answer just 1 or 2.

i would have a hard time using crutches bc fat, so maybe another mobility option? but i’d need more info to decide. is the pain manageable? what’s the cause? etc
tofu7992
also would depend on if i have insurance or not, and if i could afford a prosthetic

I probably couldn’t afford something fancy by myself but in my country the state would at least cover one basic prosthetic every 5 years or so so it wouldn’t have to cost me anything

tofu7992: 3rd option is a wheelchair which I don’t love. Pain is such I don’t leave the house much. Daily life is difficult especially without help. It’s caused by a birth defect in the leg.

1 i believe in getting better

At its worst the pain is like walking on a knife’s edge or a fractured foot. But it’s only when it’s at its worst, I have other lesser pains the rest of the time but that can still be quite debilitating. It affects me mentally and I cry all the time when it gets really bad.

with that additional info, i would amputate if it would stop the pain

thanks for taking the time to give your input. I’m still light years away from being in a place mentally where I can make a decision but I’ve been mulling over this for so long, I don’t know what to think anymore or what a person is supposed to do or if I’m crazy.

sorry you’re in this position and also that you feel you can’t be open about it. hope you have supportive people in your life. - barb

thanks. I don’t, really, which is what makes it harder, having to do it on my own, basically. So I carry on as it is for now, but I don’t know for how long.

leg options - wearable tech, power tools, firearms, flamethrower - make 2 my choice.

you could have an awesome display of your choices.

depends on the probability that scenario 2 will work. If it's at least 98% possible that everything will go well, then I think it's a better choice. Must talk with the doctor for that and check his skills based on the cases that he previously handled.

going through 2 is really really scary! and intimidatingly final. but would probably give you your LIFE back, and open your world to all sorts of new possibilities. it's a REALLY hard choice to make though.

yeah, the gamble is the hard part. Thanks guys, good points.
