I plant a LOT of garlic. Mine won’t be ready until July. I cut off the scapes (and cook with them) to let the bulbs grow larger. But I do allow a couple to go to seed. I plant the seed garlic in the late fall and they grow over winter. I use them like green onions in spring.

hanksmom : I've never been able to grow garlic here in Florida. Then last year, I was watching a podcast, and the husband said he had the same problem (in Alabama) and learned that elephant garlic is possible if you live in the south. You learn something new everyday!
