絕世黃瓜
So I bought coconut milk from the milk aisle, so it was the kind sold as a milk substitute, and it was the worst thing ever. :|

I was like "I like coconut milk, maybe this will be OK" no, no it's not.

I'm convinced that all milk substitutes want to substitute skim milk and I hate it

fuecoco
........................ coconut milk is not a milk substitute, it's a cooking ingredient
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7278979-medium33409380.gif)
絕世黃瓜
I took a sip to try it and was like "What is this mildly coconut flavored water? It's terrible."

almond milk is the same, and the soy milk they sell like that is also gross.
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/8972754-medium48280153.gif)
👻🔥Anifreet🔥👻
ugh gross
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7278979-medium33409380.gif)
絕世黃瓜
The only thing that's been kind of OK is oatmilk
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7278979-medium33409380.gif)
絕世黃瓜
as long as it's not unsweetened and vanilla.
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7278979-medium33409380.gif)

But anyway, mixing in some canned coconut milk (that has all the good fat in it!) made it at least palatable with some chocolate syrup.
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7278979-medium33409380.gif)

and then I dumped the rest of the carton into a pot and decided to make Tom Kha. >.>;
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7278979-medium33409380.gif)
絕世黃瓜
Also threw in the rest of the can I had opened.
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7278979-medium33409380.gif)
絕世黃瓜
added no water

I've found regular coconut milk to be a pretty decent milk substitute, like, drinks where you would use milk, you could use it instead and it comes out more or less ok. (Mostly because of fat content.)

kikibug13
coconut milk is great for cooking but yeah not a substitute...
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7278979-medium33409380.gif)

But this is like, the dairy aisle, it will have almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk.

oatmilk

I think people try to eat cereal with them and put it in their coffee.

or cook with it when something requires milk.

mostly my issue was it was watered down garbage
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7278979-medium33409380.gif)
絕世黃瓜
I think it's telling I could use it straight away for soup and add no water.
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7278979-medium33409380.gif)
絕世黃瓜
and still needed to add coconut milk from a can to it.

Mostly I try these alternatives because I have a bad relationship with milk and lactose free can be hit or miss, and keep trying to find things I could use for similar things u.u

Like, I really want to figure out a way to make thai ice tea without condensed milk....

👻🔥Anifreet🔥👻
maybe coconut cream? its thicker

maybe

I tried regular canned once, and it was OK, but it didn't feel quite right
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7278979-medium33409380.gif)
絕世黃瓜
I think there's stuff you can add to milk, that's not just like a pill I could try out too
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7278979-medium33409380.gif)
絕世黃瓜
I tried to take pills once and they just don't work for me

if you have a large chinese market it might be in the aisle with condensed milk
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7362308-medium10341774.gif)
queen (temp.)
but it would have to be one of the big ones though, probably
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7362308-medium10341774.gif)
queen (temp.)
I feel like you could probably also make your own coconut condensed milk but do not quote me on it
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7362308-medium10341774.gif)
queen (temp.)
also for soy milk, do you have access to an asian market? because more asian brands sell soy milk as its own drink rather than just a milk substitute and it doesn't taste the same as the ones sold as milk substitutes
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7278979-medium33409380.gif)
絕世黃瓜
I do! I like most the Asian soy milks I've tried.
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7278979-medium33409380.gif)
絕世黃瓜
and I will look for coconut condensed milk
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7278979-medium33409380.gif)
絕世黃瓜
I bought it once before, but it was a Mexican brand and had a weird slightly off putting taste.
![](https://avatars.plurk.com/7278979-medium33409380.gif)

I think it was for tres leches, which would have probably been fine.

or maybe ot was just really old, not sure.
