came out to hang out on his jungle gym for about an hour, then fluttered onto the floor, which is pretty unusual behavior for him; he likes being High

he beelines to the couch and walks slowly along the front of a portion of it, tapping it with his beak and lightly biting the pleather

reaches one end of that section of it, turns around, and starts retracing his steps doing the same thing again??

at which point i realize i'm pretty sure what he's trying to do

that section of the couch is a recliner, and when it's open it looks like this

he is often in a good position to 1) see the recliner portion open, and 2) get a good view of the space underneath

he likes high places, but even more than that, he likes small, enclosed, well-defined spaces

tl;dr i think my parrot wanted to climb inside my couch 8| NOT HAPPENING, BUDDY

it's a sectional and that end isn't 100% attached to the rest of the couch, so there's a small gap - not enough for him to fit through, but he was showing an inordinate amount of interest in it so i got up and pushed the pieces a little closer together, and the couch moving freaked him out so he flapped across the room

at which point he deigned to step up on my hand and get off the floor, promptly flew from my hand back to his cage, and then pulled the cage door shut on himself

oh there is zero chance of it, it's about six inches above his head and requires fingers capable of pulling upwards to operate

he already has multiple hidey-holes; he does not need this one

i've read that having access to places to hide in can encourage nesting/mating behavior, which can in turn create sexual frustration without an outlet, which can in turn increase the chance of aggression and unhappiness in males especially but thankfully i've had no issues with that

unsure if it's just luck of the draw or if he's too old for it to be a problem
