Boo👻Berry
went for a walk, found a little bird who couldn't fly. there were tons of kids and dogs running around so I took my bird friend home and I'll take him to a sanctuary tomorrow. I don't know what to do with birds!
jenn
Was it like a baby-baby with no feathers at all or was it a fledgling/feathers but can't fly?
Boo👻Berry
Fledgling, I think he was learning to fly but didn't make it. I couldn't find any nests to put him back in

jenn
this flowchart is good
Boo👻Berry
THANK YOU
jenn
if he's a fledgling you prob should have left him be, sometimes it takes them a few days to learn and people/dogs being around didn't necessarily mean he was in danger
Boo👻Berry
it was a really crowded space, I only noticed him because a toddler almost stepped on him :c
Boo👻Berry
but now I know!
jenn
yeah it's scary to be a wild animal. in the future if they're not obviously injured it's just better to move them to a bush or someplace out of foot traffic and then leave them be
Boo👻Berry
I could also take him back tomorrow maybe?? They say if the parents aren't there in two hours they might not come back. The area is an outdoor mall and closed tomorrow so it'd be quieter/safer
Boo👻Berry
or there is a rescue
Boo👻Berry
what is the best thing do you think?
jenn
how far away are you? because i honestly would just return it immediately if possible
jenn
not to say the sanctuary can't handle it if that's the only option, but the bird will prob be fine on its own. the two hour window is mostly for nestling birds without feathers
Boo👻Berry
It's about forty minutes, but yeah I can drive back out. hopeful bird reunion!
jenn
bird reunion goooooo!! godspeed
Boo👻Berry
but yes thank you! if it's four legged I have it on lock, but the last time I interacted with a bird was when my friend hit a duck with her car. (bird lived!) and then the solution was obviously "animal hospital"
Boo👻Berry
duck lived, I mean. in an aviary for birds who were also no longer able to live in the wild
jenn
aww, poor duck, i'm glad you could help him

This lady flew smack into the side of my car one morning while I was doing 50. She was very docile for me to scoop her off the road and while I was driving, but as soon as I stopped, she decided she hated my car and my doctor who window clings and especially me.
BethampHATamine
So I waited out in the rain for the rescue to open.

that's an incredible photo

I wish I'd gotten one of her in the trader joe's bag. The meme potential alone.
Boo👻Berry
That owl is gorgeous! What happened with her?
Boo👻Berry
hopefully re-released?
BethampHATamine
She was! She was the rescue's patient of the month, and they treated her for blunt trauma and poisoning (she'd been eating poisoned rats) and let her go about six weeks later.
BethampHATamine
This is her
Boo👻Berry
I'm so happy she lived
Boo👻Berry
AJ has some friends who run a bird sanctuary, we're (hopefully!) going to go visit them next week
BethampHATamine
I've always wanted to volunteer in one, and never made time.

Aww! Little birb!
Boo👻Berry
Birb is returned! There are many cats around the area so I found the thickest bush he could hop into and just cross my fingers now
jenn
wonderful!! i'm sure he'll be fine, fledglings are durable and they'll figure out how to get up high again to keep practicing flying

good luck little bird!
