[YGO TCG] watchin everyone lose their minds when a fanmade name turns out to not be the official translated name
Levi
Abhyss was never the name, guys
Levi
it was just the name the people who chose the original translations of the Japanese names made up, and the original Japanese didn't translate to that either
Levi
they just came up with something that sounded like it could be a YGO TCG name
Levi
this isn't a Black Feather -> Blackwing or Moonlight -> Lunalight or Bee Force -> Battlewasp situation either where it was clearly English words
Levi
it's like manga fan translations all over again
Dragons Dragons
"I don't like the official name because I'm too used to the translation I read first" is unfortunately eternal...
Levi
Ogdoadic is an extremely fitting name because it's a term used in Egyptian mythology. You know, Egypt, that place that YGO anime lore is very closely tied to
Levi
Dragons Dragons : The weirdest thing about this is people thought that was the official canon translated name and that it was "changed"
Levi
the site that posts the translations never claims that the names they use are official and on plenty of occasions they have posted translations that didn't make it to the official translations
Levi
like, no one was surprised when the Holy Night cards were changed to Starry Night when they were translated even though the translation site called them Holy Night at first or when Dogma got renamed to Dogmatika
Levi
*Dragma
Levi
Adamantia got renamed to Adamancipator on official release, etc.
Levi
and in this very same set, the Doremichords got renamed to Sofrachords and no one is complaining about that
Levi
I think people are just having like, an initial revulsion to Ogdoad because they aren't sure how to pronounce it
Levi
(it's Ogh-dode)
Levi
also YGO players are famous for not being able to pronounce the names of their own cards so this is just business as usual
