POV: you are a high school student and the history class sub is setting up the DVD player for today's class

فك يو
i can't be the only one who went to schools where all the kids were really and truly invested in seeing the logo perfectly hit the corner

Mad Larkin
I remember watching that and praying for it to hit the corner

The DVD Logo - The Office US

Airdra
we only had VCRs in school but like...at home with the DVD player? Heck yeah my brother and I would get so hype if it perfectly hit the corner

فك يو
★ тяу-нαя∂уи
god this is too real

★ тяу-нαя∂уи
i felt so seen when this aired because it was ALWAYS me

pantherdragon
this struggle was real

shobogan

𝑤𝑖𝑡𝑐ℎ 𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑒𝑛-

𝑤𝑖𝑡𝑐ℎ 𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑒𝑛-

Kira🌵
it is so satisfying when it hits the corner perfectly!

nevecore
omg i am called tf out

Wintertide
... I didn't even have DVDs in college, omg.

Wintertide
did they still have film strips when you youngsters were in elementary school?

Aelwyn Abernant
Intensely invested in the corner

فك يو
VCRs when i was in elementary

فك يو
my dad got a DVD player when i was in 4th grade, but being allowed to use it/handle DVDs was a Special Thing

Wintertide
What is a filmstrip projector?

Wintertide
^^^ that was what we had. later we got these bad boys:

Wintertide
I think VCRs started showing up when I was in middle school.

فك يو
oof, yeah, both of those were definitely before my time!

فك يو
relics

فك يو
overhead projectors were very common though

فك يو
these

Wintertide
I remember my algebra teacher using an overhead projector, a felt-tip pen, and many many sheets of clear plastic.

فك يو
though only in middle and high school for me, i think (so 2001-2008)

Wintertide
with the really old filmstrip projectors, they didn't automatically advance, so someone who had been a Very Good Boy or Girl got to turn the knob to advance the film every time the audio made the "next frame" noise.

فك يو
was that job coveted or dreaded

ᴠɪɴᴄɪʙʟᴇ.
one time an overhead projector burst into flames at the start of class. it was awesome

Wintertide
Filmstrip Turner was an intensely coveted job.

فك يو
ᴠɪɴᴄɪʙʟᴇ.
OH MY GOD

ᴠɪɴᴄɪʙʟᴇ.
we were in the basement too so it was the only light source. it was a really small burst so it died quickly and nobody could find the light switch so it was total darkness for a bit. memories,

pantherdragon
oh man those overhead projectors

pantherdragon
painstakingly tracing on the clear sheets pictures and diagrams that you'd want to use for your presenation with the overhead markers

Airdra
I had so many teachers just throw up notes on the overhead projector and expect us to just copy everything word for word instead of actually teaching...

c_for_characters
Potentially odd aside: I RARELY get to teach history (my main teachable) because it's so horrendously under taught in the curriculum. (I will die on the hill that it's more important than the STEM we focus on instead.) So when I do get to teach it? Nothing disappoints me quite so much as seeing on the instructions "put in video."

c_for_characters
If the teacher has them copying notes, at least I can do something there.

c_for_characters
Add context, anecdotes - anything to make it more than dates.

★ тяу-нαя∂уи
lol my senior year chem teacher just had us copy notes

c_for_characters
Last time I got called in? Three periods of movies. I mean, sure, Exorcism of Emily Rose turned out to be good, but I just sat there all day.

★ тяу-нαя∂уи
relatedly i failed senior year chemistry

Yarn Temptress
I had filmstrips in elementary school up into early middle. After that we used a lot of overhead projectors.

ѕυnɗerlanɗ°
god I'm trying to remember how common dvds were in high school? that was so long ago

ѕυnɗerlanɗ°
I do vividly remember overhead projectors

فك يو
i can't believe high school was 13 years ago for m

فك يو
it feels like yesterday

ѕυnɗerlanɗ°
